I have been working at Ingles Markets part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Consistent hours at the high end of part time work, mostly reasonable customers, coworkers are typically friendly and willing to provide rides to/from work if needed

    Cons

Management unwilling to flex for reasonable accommodations per ADA unless employee is persistent (water at work station), constant need for more people meant more hours/week than initially indicated, high stress position with minimum legally allowable breaks, attendance policy requires doctor's note for every call-in, management does not enforce food safety policies regarding call-ins for the big three symptoms

    Advice to Management

Read up on federal laws governing reasonable accommodation, hire a small set of workers with lower weekly hours and flexible schedules to cover call-ins for illness and family emergency, be up front about hours needed with potential hires.

    Pros

Environment is what you make it. If your friendly & outgoing most coworkers will be. Somewhat flexible schedule, depending on manager. Great experience building job.

    Cons

Hard to get pay raises. Indecisive pay scale, they bring in new inexperienced workers at higher pay than older more experience ones. Department heads don't have control of departments, store manager does, therefore dept. Heads cant reprimand lazy employees or reward hard working ones. Old school systems. Works every single holiday. Not family oriented .

    Advice to Management

Pay scale off experience & service, not just to get people in the door. Take care of the hardworking employees & don't baby the lazy ones. Give dept heads more authority on hiring & firing. Update systems, could save on payroll if all departments could inventory & schedule electronically. Rotate holidays off for employees so the same employees aren't working every single holiday, it would help moral

    Pros

They would work with your schedule and time off but that's about it.

    Cons

    Too many to jot down.

    Advice to Management

Don't have and choose your favorite employees within the store. Treat every employee like how you would wanna be treated.

I worked at Ingles Markets part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people overall were good. Customers are reasonable with demands. I worked the Deli, it was always busy. I was the best deli worker by far but never was allowed over 39.9 hours a week. Immediately went to Publix and got fulltime and more pay..so the chaos did eventually pay off.

    Cons

Management always looking to put you down, target people to fire voluntarily. Coworkers bad talking each other constantly, lazy people are ok as long as they come in everyday. Culture is mostly people looking for an easy paycheck. When people call out, quit, no call, never once did any manager try to fill the gap..too much work.

    Advice to Management

Hope you can stay afloat with Publix taking all of your borrowed fake business practices. Most concepts are taken from other longer standing retailers.

I worked at Ingles Markets full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good for high schoolers looking to work part time and make extra money, some nice co-workers and customers as with most retail jobs

    Cons

The worst management I've ever experienced. They take delegation to the next level by doing absolutely nothing and taking it out on the lower levels if everything isn't done the way they want it to. Constantly coming up with new rules and reprimanding you for not knowing them. Picking favorites and having fun with them, while treating all other employees horribly. Not even trying to treat anyone with respect, including not knowing long time employees names (managers would refer to cashier by their register number often). Blaming employees for customer complaints. Expecting bookkeepers to balance every night, even if the money was off when they came in, and expecting them to get out on time so no overtime had to be given, while simultaneously making them do a managers job such as dealing with cashiers and customers on top of counting money. Promoting unworthy employees, not giving promised raises to others. Letting employees call out consistently and not doing anything about it.

    Advice to Management

Learn how to treat employees with respect, and maybe you won't have such a high turnover rate.
