    I worked at Innovate UK

    Pros

Very good pay for a short term contract. Friendly team and standard 9-5 working days. Office very accessible in Swindon town centre.

    Cons

Some of the work became very laborious and repetitive. As the nature of a short term contract there was no room for movement.

I have been working at Innovate UK full-time

    Pros

If you're working in the innovation areas directly, there's a lot of flexibility and you basically design your own job. No-one's checking up on you, so there's a high degree of trust involved. The annual leave allowance and additional expenses allowances are pretty good

    Cons

    - The organisation has been through constant change, sometimes reversing direction, and with no clear vision of the organisation's future. The culmination of this is that it's been absorbed into UKRI which is tragic. - The staff haven't been well engaged in any of the changes and there has been any external support to manage the change or culture. - The culture has elements of machismo and hero worship (except what...

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Innovate UK for more than 5 years

    Pros

Excellent supposed mission - if only some of the staff knew what it was like to a startup or early stage SME!

    Cons

Where to start?! The CEO that came in around 2014/15 was out of her depth, but felt that she was royalty. She remained too remote to ever understand the organisation and ended up simply slavishly adhering to the whims of the sponsoring government department. A lack of transparency in appointments saw bizarre promotions - particularly for those close to the CEO or whos faced fitted, irrespective of ability. The remote...

    Advice to Management

Listen to experienced staff - value their experience and insight and use it to develop the organisation into what it should be. Do the same with the companies the organisation is supposed to support, most of whom bemoan the arduous grant application process and opaque application assessment process.

I have been working at Innovate UK full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Home based-so some flexibility

    Cons

How long have you got...! Promoting incapable people to authority positions. The rot starts from the top-turf out the corrupt rubbish at the top and weeding out the lazy so and so’s will follow-paving the way for a more productive business.

    Advice to Management

Sack yourselves! Promote people who work hard and treat people with respect. Be fair. Discipline lazy people.

I have been working at Innovate UK full-time

    Pros

Close to where I live If you are a butt kisser you will go far Supposedly the benefits, but other civil service orgs have better

    Cons

No career prospects Not valued for experience Not listened to when have opinion based on experience Serious bullying from senior managers No care about health and well being Ineffective HR department, don't even deal with serious breaches of conduct, just have informal meetings and expect things to 'go away' Don't uphold civil service principles of honesty and integrity Do not know how to help or protect staff...

    Advice to Management

Maybe you should learn from other government departments how they treat their employees, this is the worst culture in an organisation I have ever been in. Given bullying happens from the highest level, some people really need to look in the mirror.

I worked at Innovate UK full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good pay for a town wage

    Cons

Bullying is rife from senior staff and anyone who isn't monitored closely. Bullies are almost always paid off and incompetence is also rewarded. The introduction of the new CEO assisted in this organisation becoming a hellish place to work. Directors have been and remain dangerously incompetent in HR, Finance, Communications and the CEO herself. Turning a blind eye and burying what's going on in her quest to be...

    Pros

I really enjoyed my job until a new Manager joined and the atmosphere in the section changed no the bullying and harassment started. This was not only in the section but in several others too. Would I work for this company again not until thagement has been sorted out as well as the HR section.

    Cons

Bullying, harassment o chance of progression within the company
