I worked at Insight Communications full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

This was the best company to work for. It was like a big family. Everyone cared about each other & the customers

    Cons

Unfortunately, this company no longer exists & were bought out by Time Warner Cable

    Pros

Got noc experience. Got to experience a good deal of third shift maintenance window types of activities.

    Cons

The pay was abysmal. Couldn't get a meaningful raise no matter that we did. Management continually moved the goal post on what would get us an increase in pay as they continually piled on more and more duties and responsibility. Last straw was when new mgmt came in with absolutely zero technical skills and tried to micro-manage.

    Advice to Management

Reward the people on whose backs you went from worst to first. Not the CEOs who couldn't troubleshoot or design their way out of a wet paper bag with a step by step guide.

I worked at Insight Communications full-time

    Pros

Very controlled environment with a lot of support from leadership. Leadership team had a good sense of what was happening at all levels. Compensation was at or above market level.

    Cons

There were a lot of reporting requirements, which is why the leadership team had so much information. Project and other efforts required additional analysis that did not seem necessary much of the time.

    Advice to Management

The Project intake system at Insight was great. I look to copy that and use what I learned about Project Management in my future.

    Advice to Management

    Nothing, the company was sold.

    Pros

Pay is good, sales managers were skilled and personable.

    Cons

Knocking on doors at night was scarey. People do not like to be disturbed at dinner time and would get rude.

I worked at Insight Communications full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You get free cable, internet, and phone services. It was easy to schedule time off, and easy to get overtime.

    Cons

Mandatory sales pitch- this became more important to management than the customer service and troubleshooting aspects of taking calls.

    Advice to Management

Shouldn't have CSRs to try to sell a product to a customer whose current services are not working. If you can resolve their issue over the phone, you might have a shot at getting a sale. If the issue requires a work order, most customers are annoyed, they are not likely to consider purchasing another service. It sends the message that you care more about making money than satisfying your customers, which might be true, but it doesn't make the customer happy.

    Pros

The team was hungry to learn and open to new ideas and process's

    Cons

There were few opportunity's for career advancement and job expectations were unreasonable considering the tool's, training and manpower

    Advice to Management

Management needs to lead by example
