    Pros

Insight does a great job of valuing the brainpower of each person on the staff, and they hire with that in mind. Candidates are evaluated by how well they can learn, think, write, and express themselves, even more than on what they already know. This makes for a dynamic group of co-workers hell-bent on incorporating creativity into their work.

Projects are diverse and interesting, especially compared to working in-house at a client's company, where you'd only learn that one kind of business/brand. There are opportunities to work with adults, teens, and kids here, and to use both qualitative and quantitative research skills, as well as consulting.

Those with an interest in a particular area of research can move teams if appropriate. Reviews are twice yearly, and team members are given clear guidelines and goals for how to advance. Many "stars" move up the ladder quickly.

The company has done a ton of work to make a fun culture in the office -- celebrating birthdays, planning company outings/events, etc.

    Cons

The trade-off for variety of work is that the work load can get very large and unpredictable. Since Insight is a client-based business, sometimes client requests can mean last-minute extra work (late nights, weekends, etc.). The kids' team seems to do a better job at work/life balance than the company as a whole. In general the team often feels like they are understaffed. Occasionally the work-load is made worse by internal requests or unreasonable promises to the client from the founder.

    Advice to Management

Giving the researchers extra jobs outside of research can be really taxing on people's productivity on the research side. Consider hiring an operations/hr type person to handle reviews, recruiting, social events, staffing, etc.

I have been working at Insight Strategy Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There's a lot of talented, interesting people who work here, and everyone gets along very well generally. Insight gets interesting, challenging projects across industries, more so than other places I've worked. The work we deliver is as a rule excellent. The office and the location are great. I like the culture here better than at other places I've worked.

    Cons

The work is challenging and demanding, and it's not always easy to predict when you'll be busy. The founders can be difficult to work with, but they tend to not be as involved anymore.

    Pros

They tend to hire smart, enjoyable people. Projects included a range of interesting topics and if you're effective, you'll be rewarded accordingly. They also make an effort to have fun company activities.

    Cons

Often received delayed and / or inconsistent feedback; many internal meetings were "pushed." These among other inefficient processes frequently resulted in working late nights - past midnight - and weekends (would like to emphasize that this was not a unique or uncommon scenario). High stress-levels tended to lead to high turnover among employees at all levels, which subsequently led to staffing challenges / lack of support for project leads.

    Pros

Very passionate and intelligent people who care about what they do - uncovering the hidden truths that drive how people make decisions and behave, providing valuable insights to positively influence the way client's conduct their business.

The Co-CEOs are great, and brilliant people who have created a work environment that feels embracing and supportive.

The workload can be very demanding, but there is an appreciation for work/life balance and company is accommodating and works to keep that balance in order by instituting programs (fitness classes, company activities, etc.) to help alleviate stress. They also respect that space and time are important to the creative process and encourage working offsite or in a space other than your desk if it helps clear the mind and improve productivity and creativity.

    Cons

The chain of command is not always clear, and responsibilities are not clearly defined, which can be frustrating and unproductive.

I worked at Insight Strategy Group part-time

    Pros

Projects can be unpredictable, and a few interesting ones seem to come their way from time to time, from a diverse array of clients. Fast-paced (if that can be considered a pro) with a wide variety of possible assignments.

    Cons

Inhospitable environment, guided by management that is unfriendly, sometimes even hostile, and largely uninformed about many related areas of their business. Passive-aggressive nastiness and constant condescension from middle-management coupled with unrealistic deadlines, endless last minute changes from multiple team members simultaneously– from a staff that is less-than-knowledgable and highly demanding, made working a nightmare and resulted in unnecessary all-nighters and unpaid time. The company's core culture and values are seriously flawed.

    Advice to Management

Realize that most people you hire are engaged, interested, and want to do a good job– they are not there to take advantage, overcharge you, nor are they trying get away with doing less work. Build relationships with your employees, treat them with respect, trust them to do the job they were hired for, and encourage a supportive, collaborative working environment. Lose the egos–there are more important things in life than aggressively climbing some marketing research ladder and completing projects at any cost to the mental or physical detriment of your employees.

I worked at Insight Strategy Group full-time

    Pros

There are a lot of smart people and interesting work going on here. It's fast-paced and fun at times.

    Cons

Emphasis on quantity and not quality of research. Lots of wasted time on pet projects for management. Work/life balance was terrible--long hours with no extra compensation or end in sight. There's a lot of turnover here for a reason.

    Advice to Management

Be consistent with feedback and clear about priorities. Realize that people can only take on so much before they start to go crazy.

    Pros

Work was never boring since pople worked in a fast-paced environment. The team was supportive and friendly, and the firm presented a very relaxed culture. The company prides itself as a strategic partners that solves clients' issues with innovative and creative solutions via the most customized research.

You could move up the rank fairly quickly if you demonstrate you are a strategic thinker who has the skill sets to get the job done. Sky is the limit

    Cons

The work/life balace could and should be improved

Not enough balance between the quantitative and qualitative research staff.

    Advice to Management

Please work on managing your project timeline. PMs and Directors could use more help from the associates.
