I worked at Insight Technology full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of over-time available. My average work week was approximately 50 hours!

    Cons

One morning, the Machine shop was closed and 12 machinist were shown the door.

    Advice to Management

Big mistake in closing an in-house machine shop. Now your at the mercy and price of out-side shops for that hot item or needed it yesterday! Plus, the quality of the product has gone down. What a shame...

I have been working at Insight Technology full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Compensation and paid time off is fair and average for the industry, but far from any union rates.
Many opportunities for immigrant and disabled workers at this location.
    Hard working employees.
All the products are very interesting and serve a purpose.

    Cons

Most atmosphere is tense; not a family culture. Cliques and separation between upper management and the people below, lots of people from different backgrounds and several different product lines add to this separation.
Many very hard-working individuals who do put in a lot of long hours but, lack some technical skills because the company does not develop their employees.
Not much emphasis on values or any golden rules other than, the quality policy posted above the time clock and the annual ethics training.
Definitely lacking transparency. Organizational changes, managers dropped into foreign territory shakes things up.
There are some short-sighted or rude supervisors and managers, who seem to feel they have immunities.
No prescription eyeglass or safety shoe benefits.
9/80 schedule, but a lot of employees are required to work the off Friday, and then Saturday and Sunday too. However, overtime is gladly worked by many employees.
HR is only as good as the leadership.

    Advice to Management

Take a few ideas from the big conglomerates to create a value driven culture. Consider educating employees through a development program.
Educate supervisors and management to respect their employees.
Definitely educate all employees about the company and it's products through some classroom time; everyone will begin to identify issues rapidly and quality will increase substantially.

I have been working at Insight Technology full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Location, work time, quality product

    Cons

hard to grow, production lines are suck-bad environment, low payment rate

    Advice to Management

don't think that if you got the managing position and the highest salary in the company, you don't have to count with people on production line. Give them more opportunities and chances to develop themselves

    Pros

There were great people that worked hard to make an awesome product for the military.

    Cons

Management changes empowered egos, and ultimately tore down a great operation.

    Advice to Management

    Retire

I have been working at Insight Technology full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great work environment; excellent direct manager; great people to work with; education reimbursment; IT systems are finally up to day - Microsoft 2013; health insurance offered; 401k with company match; bonus this year from profit sharing

    Cons

Top-down flow is non existent - information, communication, collaboration is deficient; MRP systems are challenging; paying almost $10k per year for Aetna insurance - partly due to Obamacare, and partly due to employer match percentage; pay scale does not commensurate with experience/titles - insurance increases and minimal pay increases, people here make the same as they did in 2009.

    Advice to Management

HR should take a look at pay disparity between the sexes and/or titles or experience.

    Pros

Nice place to work. Pleasant atmosphere. Has a gym and café. Area is nice for walking. People are mostly nice and helpful. Clean and open. Hrs. are good. If your dept. is out of supplies or work you can be put in another dept. so you can continue to work

    Cons

Pay could be better. Some people in authority have been known to start and/or spread rumors about employees and getting them I trouble or shunned by co workers. Not all supplies are available when needed. Not enough AMERICANS hired.

I worked at Insight Technology full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The benefits are pretty good, and comparable to other defense companies. Employees start with 3 weeks of PTO (with an option to purchase another week during open enrollment), 9/80 schedule that allows you to take every other Friday off, decent health and dental plans, 401k with 4% dollar for dollar matching (3 year tiered vesting schedule though), ESPP and profit sharing.

The location in Londonderry, NH offers a scenic campus and their facility is one of the better and more modern ones (not an old and grey environment).

    Cons

Although L-3 bought the company in 2010, their training and tools are woefully inadequate considering their size. I had worked for years in another defense company and it is a night and day difference. There is no formal training involved and no process in place to assist employees to achieve success. Certain departments have abnormally high turnover rates because of this.

The compensation across virtually all job grades are not in-line with industry competitors. I felt a lot of my peers were hired based partly on achieving cost savings rather than overall skills. Although most managers are capable and knowledgeable, they are in part because of their tenure and having the transitional experience of going through a small start-up to a division of a large conglomerate.

    Advice to Management

Pressure the parent company to give Insight more resources to help achieve success. Sequestration and the loss of certain contracts does put pressure to reduce overhead, but you are detrimentally killing yourself off in the long run.

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at Insight Technology full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Pay is good. Benefits are average. Promotions are few. Company does not value the employees. The culture can be hostile.

    Cons

Managers are harsh, old world, critical, combative, uncaring, unseeing, dictate. Making the employee feel human and like they matter is important. Allowing groups to abuse and bash each other is unproductive. The place is going down the wrong road and people are leaving in troves.

    Advice to Management

President, vice president, and managers need to smarten up if they want to keep the talent.

    Pros

Great people. Cool products. Cafeteria is great! Bathrooms are always clean. Nice artwork on the walls. two buildings to choose from.

    Cons

Not much room for growth if you don't have a degree, even if you have a decade of experience. The knuckleheads straight out of college get the jobs that you should have gotten and you have to train them, and hope they are a decent person to work with.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to do a better job of keeping morale up. one big way to accomplish this is to be honest with everyone. don't play favorites. and don't tell one person one story and another one another story. We all talk and we all know when it's BS. Disclaimer: There are some very good managers there. Not all talk out of both sides of their mouths.
