A good way to get some extra cash one the side.

Aug 31, 2021 - Instacart Full Service Shopper in Chattanooga, TN

    Pros

    * Pick your own batches, and not forced batches like door dash effecting your batches. *On your own schedule. *Instacash out: Instantly cash out to your bank.

    Cons

Seems to slow down once the first COVID lock down was over. Customers can report items missing or damaged regardless if true and it will effect your access to batches if they give you poor rating or Instacart doesn't give you a chance to rectify anything even if you did make an honest mistake and something fall out the bag. Customer service support is arrogant and doesn't have a concept of what the shoppers driving are experiencing, nor do they care... Their #1 priority is the customer because they are needing customers badly.

Good Employees/Shoppers are Treated as Dispensible

Oct 7, 2021 - Full Service Shopper in Palo Alto, CA
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Ability to set your own schedule and a decent hourly wage if you have the experience to navigate the app effectively (if not you may work very hard for peanuts).

    Cons

Rating system is often unfair towards shoppers and unfair/inappropriate ratings are not removed until 100 new orders have been completed, yet the lower rating directly reduces earnings potential. Strong evidence to suggest that shoppers are considered dispensable per Instacart's business model and that there is no benefit from the company for doing an excellent job.

    Best delivery side gig

Sep 7, 2021 - Full Service Shopper in Tallahassee, FL

    Pros

I have completed 3 days of working for Instacart and I love it. I already love to grocery shop for myself so I knew this would be fun. The pay is great and I don’t really worry about not getting an order because every 6 minutes or so, something pops up. I’ve met other people doing what I do while shopping as well as found neighborhoods I didn’t know existed.

    Cons

Sometimes you may get a big order that may take you longer than you would like, but the more you work, the better you get at it. Not really a con, but you have to be quick with grabbing orders because they can go fast.

it was great , until it wasnt

Jul 30, 2021 - Personal Shopper in Charlotte, NC

    Pros

-set your own hours -choose batches -optional instant payout -minimum customer interface

    Cons

-tip baiters -customer support is whack and doesnt help -customers lie in order to get free groceries (i.e. claim you didnt deliver the correct item, the item was damaged, bad review for no reason, etc.) -gas and car mileage adds up -some batches are literally under minimum wage...lol -a bunch of people are doing it now so there are barely any batches -ONE bad review will jeopardize the batches you see and when they pop up on your screen

    Pros

Make your own schedule Decent pay.

    Cons

Lack of customer service help Bad customers that can damage your career with one bad review even though you have all 5 star reviews. Just two reviews does it. They do not care about you. You are a number.

Instacart could treat their employees better

    Oct 6, 2021 - Personal Shopper

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Great pay if you can do the deliveries and if the customer is honest.

    Cons

Customers can do the bate/ switch on the shopper. They will agree with o a certain amount to shop for them and when you've accepted they wait until you start to lower the amount. And can lie on the shopper saying items are missing/damaged to fraudulently get money back and that gives the shopper a terrible rating which affects how many batches they receive which ultimately affects the shoppers pay. There is nothing way to fix that accept to just say it's not true.

Easy side gig but obviously no career

    Pros

Easy to do. Easy to gay hired. Some shoppers tip very well.

    Cons

Some people do not tip at all and base pay is very low. Customers can also change the tip from is promised when accepting the batch. You also have to save for taxes at the end of the year if you make more than a certain amount.

    Abusive Company

Oct 7, 2021 - Instacart In Store Shopper
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

There are none. I would not recommend anyone working for this company. One star is too much.

    Cons

There are too many to list. Constant major App issues, the rating system does not conform to the reality of issues that arise in the real world and this works against the shopper on many levels. It should be quality over quantity and not a race against an unrealistic clock. This company does not provide the proper communication or support for their shoppers. It's as if the shopper is the enemy.
