I worked at Instrumentation Laboratory Company full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Engineers you deal with day to day across the Bedford facility are nice. 8% 401K match is nice but not unique to industry. Subsidized cafeteria food is good. Working on life saving products.

    Cons

If you do not "click" with management you won't last. If you have an alpha personality don't bother...no one is listening.

    Advice to Management

You're neither as special as you think nor are engineers as desperate as you think. Management should listen to all feedback not only what you agree with.

    "Toxic workplace"

Former Employee - Manufacturing in New Bedford, MA

    Pros

Good location, Whole Foods and Burlington mall is is close by. Cafeteria offers discounted meals and a lot of overtime

    Cons

Like the others said the toxic environment is too much. No teamwork, everyone gossiping about one another over the most stupidest things. My advice if you come to work for IL is DO NO MAKE ANY FRIENDS here, just come do your job and go home. These people love to gossip and bully people. You can feel the negative energy all around them. Everyone is miserable here, you can see it in their faces.

    Advice to Management

My advice is to never come work here

    Pros

Their really are no positive thoughts that I have to share !

    Cons

Internally they are like a bunch of old gossiping ladies that seem to thrive on talking about staff in negative ways on a routine basis.

    Advice to Management

Fire the CEO, and all the VP’s and start a new positive culture!

    Pros

There are good people in this company, who do care but the crappy ones out way the good.

    Cons

HR departments does not support the employees at all, only look out for the company. Bosses dont recognize employees that deserve a promotion, only view employees that kiss butt. Very common for people to think you have nothing to do or you dont do anything because you get your work done fast. Very frustrating. Salary based pay does not mean that they are flexible with your hours, only means you work more hours for us and get no more pay.

    Advice to Management

Start paying attention to the employees that work hard and get job done.

I have been working at Instrumentation Laboratory Company full-time

    Pros

    Benefits
    Travel Perks
    Everyone is really really nice
    Meals are subsidized
    Gym in the building
R&D investment forecasts potentially bright future that is if te culture can become more nimble

    Cons

    Outdated technology, mentality, procedures.
A sense of "we'll keep doing this b/c it's the way that's always been done"
Everyone can be too nice in a passive-aggressive manner
Everyone is running around preparing for the next meeting
    Top leadership lack transparency
Overall lack creativity and are not very open to new suggestions/solutions/ideas

    Advice to Management

Improve technological platforms, do everyone a favor and transition to Salesforce and Microsoft outlook. This will not only improve efficiency but also mentality!
Invest more in leadership training for your managers. Teach them how to coach others and make projects meaningful and effective. People don't leave jobs, they leave managers.
Improve team mentality by providing ways for teams to connect on topics outside of work. There's a huge lack of "sense of community" within the organization.
