I have been working at Insurance Australia Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

IAG is the established incumbent in a slow-moving, old industry. Management (in Australia & New Zealand) is aware of the risks of disruption and is working to prevent these.
    - Large company with lots of different roles and areas to move around in
    - Management is investing in new technology and staff
    - Industry will be around for a long time - in some form or another

    Cons

    - Lots of old technical debt across the different businesses and subdivisions
    - Big divide between head-office based roles and customer-support roles
    - Silos between different departments and areas

    Advice to Management

Focus on the people and supporting the people experience

I worked at Insurance Australia Group as a contractor

    Pros

Great immediate team and many high calibre employees. Employees encouraged to act in the interests of their customer and sustain the long term business. Well known brands.

    Cons

Company encourages a test and learn environment but occasional senior person encourages a blame culture. Constant re-organsiations.

    Advice to Management

    Live the values

I have been working at Insurance Australia Group full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Excellent People, Benefits & Culture - in the past and somewhat at the moment

    Cons

Top down strategy does not exist. People do not feel they understand direction of the organisation, staff feel dissonant. There are no goals for frontline staff and middle managers to align with.

    Advice to Management

Your senior executives in Australia from Mark Milner down are destroying the amazing, diverse and thriving organisation built by predecessors, including Peter Harmer (now group CEO). Your people are an asset and your drive to save costs at the detriment of your people will crush your ability to innovate or create a competitive advantage.
