I have been working at Integral Consulting full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Very interesting project work, amazing colleagues, good benefits. Great work/life balance. Overall a great company to work for.

    Cons

Opportunities for junior staff to take leadership roles can be hard to come by. However, there has been a big push to change this. More direct training would be great, or advice on what skills should be acquired to progress.

    Advice to Management

Keep pushing principals and senior staff to provide mentoring and new opportunities for staff to prove themselves and advance. Work share between offices could be vastly improved. Need either more field work or direct technical training to help junior staff grow and remain profitable. Need to balance junior staff/senior staff ratio for company to grow. Upper management needs more business management personnel to assist in company growth and outreach.

    Pros

Integral really tried to hire the best of the best and is an especially good place to work for highly technical consultants with specialized areas of expertise. Salaries for higher level staff are higher than most firms - very good benefits and work life balance.

    Cons

As the company has grown, it has had a hard time developing and keeping junior staff. In an effort to expand business areas, senior management have made some missteps at the expense of junior staff. Can also be a little too lax on time off or flexible schedules which can impact coworkers. Not enough business savvy senior folks.

I have been working at Integral Consulting full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I have worked at several environmental consulting firms, and have found my time at Integral to be the best. It is a difficult industry that may not be suited for everyone, but if you have the will to perform this type of work, you can go far at Integral.

I enjoy the culture, and interact with the highest levels of management on a daily basis. I appreciate seeing them working hard along with more junior staff to make deadlines. I believe they care about the work and integrity of the firm and don't check out early and leave others to finish the work. This is a rarity in the consulting world. If you work hard, you will be given opportunities.

    Cons

There have been some recent growing pains during the growth from a small to medium sized company, but I feel that this growth has also presented additional opportunities for staff.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Integral Consulting full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Interesting and challenging projects, intelligent people, professional environment.

    Cons

Poor management, no communication between offices and practice groups, lower pay compared to competitors, zero overtime pay, excessive nepotism and favoritism. Integral has very intelligent engineers and scientists, but unfortunately the company doesn't comprehend that these skill sets don't transcend into business and economic expertise.

    Advice to Management

Learn how to actually manage staff, balance workloads, distribute work fairly, and maintain a constant backlog. Stop playing favorites, work as a team, and treat all employees with respect. Hire experts with formal business training and marketing professionals. Business and business development is not just "common sense" as upper management believes.

    Pros

Intelligent, hardworking staff; Casual but professional environment; good team morale

    Cons

Micromanagement is everywhere; long meetings that get nowhere often; catty and cruel behavior and treatment between accounting and ops; aging principal staff that are out of touch with business today; Draconian treatment of staff by management.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees with respect and follow proper business process. Stop allowing discrimination and abuse of your junior employees by senior staff.

    Pros

Good benefits package with the exception of comp time.
    Good science, smart people

    Cons

Pay much lower than other companies
Managers expect junior staff to put work before personal life
Comp time only awarded at 75%,.

I worked at Integral Consulting full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Everyone was kind, throughout the company. The structure was remarkably flat without people looking down on entry-level employees. There was a feeling that the experienced management was always helping to develop and groom the younger employees. That is good to see in any company.

    Cons

Finding billable hours was occasionally difficult when you start. However this goes away quickly.

    Advice to Management

Perhaps have a more structured project-to-staffing hierarchy for internally distributing and staffing projects.

I have been working at Integral Consulting full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of opportunities to learn and grow. Very good pay. You are trusted to do a good job and non micromanaged.

    Cons

Atmosphere is very cold and corporate. People don't interact face to face much. Can be very isolating for new hires. In the time I've been here, many staff have left or been laid off.

I worked at Integral Consulting full-time

    Pros

Management listens to your desires for growth and tries to find you appropriate opportunities. All the offices I visited are fantastic environments with natural light and without cubicals for the most part. Supervisors do not micromanage and most of them seem to be good advocates of their employees. Most of the people I worked with were friendly and generally kind people.

    Cons

Typical highs a lows of environmental consulting... work is feast or famine and you're usually worried about lay offs during the famines. (However, while lay offs did happen they seemed slower to lay people off than other firms I have worked for).

    Advice to Management

Keep up the positive office atmosphere you had in the past.
