I have been working at InterContinental Hotels Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The employee perks are awesome! Makes traveling so much easier.

    Cons

When it comes down to training, IHG should make sure its hotels are getting the RIGHT and non-rushed training for its employees. Would've helped my coworkers and I out.

    Advice to Management

Do Not take your bad days out on your employees nor lie and state that they will get holiday pay within the first year when they really aren't. Also, do not CUT hours out of their pay!

    Pros

Upper management supports personal and career growth

    Cons

Like most global corporations, IHG consistently re-orgs to stay competitive. This is not a con but worth mentioning for awareness.

  5. "Not bad"

I have been working at InterContinental Hotels Group full-time

    Pros

Bar is usually pretty busy and always has a very good after work crowd coming for food and drinks

    Cons

Low hourly pay and working within the Union makes it easy for higher seniority workers to avoid responsibilities

    Advice to Management

Paying a higher hourly wage would definitely help motivate staff to really put in extra effort and better satisfy guests

I have been working at InterContinental Hotels Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great company culture. You can tell that this is an European-model company. They have great aspirations. Employees are treated far better here than most all of my previous employers.

    Cons

That same culture creates slowness in decision-making. The technology organization is still low on the maturity model.

    Advice to Management

Let move away from consensus-based decision making! Collect the facts, assess the risk, and let's go. Fail fast and don't punish those who are willing to take gamble.

    Pros

Middle management are some of the best people I have worked with in my career, which is why I stayed with the company for so long despite all the politics and dysfunction among upper management. If you're in a role that's not as exposed to upper management, you are more likely to be happy there. But the trickle down effect is real...

    Cons

Upper management doesn't care about the people. A lot of politics to wade through. Conflicting priorities - the business is always trying to get aligned but never can accomplish it, so there's always pressure to move against the grain in some aspects. Headquarters are based in the UK, but the majority of IHG's business happens in the US, so upper management in the UK is very disconnected from what's really happening in it's largest region.

    Advice to Management

Check the egos at the door. Finally get focused business priorities with everyone on the same page.
