Don't go in with high expectations
Jan 24, 2011 - in Salt Lake City, UTRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The work / life balance at Intermountain Health Care is fiarly decent and representative of what they claim. This certainly will vary based on department, manager, and such. But as a whole, it's decent.
Cons
Don't go into working at Intermountain Health Care with high expecations of the respect, honesty, and trust that they outwardly promote. Many of upper-management just as dishonest and spiteful as the companies they claim to not be like.

Good work / life balance
Cons
Layoffs, outsourcing, no clear idea where company is going
- Current Employee, more than 3 years★★★★★
Pros
Great work environment, focused on patient care and healing environment, great doctors. I've loved every department I've been in here. Managers see to work with you and understand your need for a healthy work life balance
Cons
Pay is lower compared to the private hospitals. A lot of people come over from those hospitals however because it's a better place to work.

Overall a great place to work
Aug 17, 2022 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Uses latest technology. Encourages personal and professional growth. Great communication. Flexible work schedule. Remote work for software engineers. Always trying to optimize work life balance and provide great tools for work efficiency. Reasonable expectations sometimes on the leisurely side. You feel valued and respected. Great benefits! Very stable company and would be a great place for someone to work for a lengthy period of time.
Cons
Compensation is closer to the low end of market value and is not very competitive but it is reasonable. Annual raises do help but it’s hard to not look elsewhere for higher pay year over year for the same experience. However, the large benefits options are hard to beat which is probably why the organization pays on the low end.

Leadership struggles to understand how to run IS projects
Jan 24, 2017 - Senior Software Engineer in Salt Lake City, UTRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Decent benefits and very nice people to work with. Culture is very accommodating for everyone. Fairly reasonable work life balance (Depends on the team and the manager)
Cons
Upward mobility is not based on performance Performance review system is a joke. You can ace it without contributing anything Terrible wastage of resources and money by doing over a lot of projects. Lack of a coherent vision tied to it's mission Leadership keeps changing it's course not knowing where to go and always changing course wasting millions of dollars CIO knew what "Agile Methodology" in Software Engineering was only in 2014!
