I have been working at International Automotive Components full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good pay, light industrial, union shop, good benefits

    Cons

Lack of communication, constant layoffs, no new business coming in so there is an atmosphere of fear among workers that the plant will close. Also many believe management is not telling the truth.

    Pros

Good pay- thanks to the Union.

    Cons

Poorly Managed. Pettiness between leaders of different departments keeps efficiency to a minimum, which flows into the workforce. Always blaming the "boogeyman" (Corporate) for things, never having the guts to man/woman up. Quality Department is for show; they're overruled on all but the most egregious situations, but bears the brunt of the blame when a customer has a reject. Upper management lacks the ability to nurture talent. Matter of fact, they're so afraid of those they perceive to be smarter or more equipped than they are, they choose to stifle (and in some instances, eliminate) any possible "competition". It's a typical situation when you have upper management that was only hired because they were related to someone- no experience is necessary. Unfortunately for everyone else, it shows in the day-to-day of the business. Floor workers are treated, on average, like dogs. Ideas for improvements are ignored but later used by Upper Mgt. to make themselves appear useful. Favoritism is a rampant issue, with those "in good" with a supervisor, superintendent, or higher even allowed to NOT do their job- at the expense of everyone else. The types that "only" come in and do their job to the best of their abilities are treated the worst; you have to be in good with someone to get anywhere.

I have been working at International Automotive Components full-time

    Pros

Decent pay. I really can't complain about what I make. The benefits have been eroded to almost nothingness, so one bad day (severe illness or injury) and that "good pay" is irrelevant. Some of the work can be rewarding, but it's the rare occasion.

    Cons

-Shoddy communication; that saying "the left hand doesn't know what the right one is doing" applies. -Reliance on "band aids" to fix everything, some going on 20 years. -Nepotism and Cronyism are standard hiring practices. -OT every weekend, most often mandatory. No work/life balance. -"When in doubt, ship it out" is the company motto, because it's cheaper to deal with reject fees than expedite fees. Unfortunately, when bosses OK bad parts, they conveniently forget when they come back, and try to write up/fire employees. -FO wants to change culture, but no one there interprets the change the same way. -Many are stuck in 1960/70's way of doing business, including how employees are treated. -The "good ones", those that connect with employees, treat them right and get good output, are often seen as a threat... They don't last long. -Unless you're part of the Good Ol' Boys Club, good luck moving into something more meaningful. If you're a minority, you're better off looking somewhere more progressive, that actually resides in the 21st century.
