I have been working at International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great family health insurance and pension. A very good salary compared to non-union contractors in my area. Training is second to none. Lastly, the contractors I have worked for put safety first, it's a culture here

    Cons

Not many, if you are a good electrician and come to work 8 for 8 every day, this is a great place to work

    Advice to Management

To the contractors, Get the proper tools/materials on the job, these electricians know the best ways to put them in

Safety is an monitory needs for everybody.
    Weekly pay, plus benefits.

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Have employees, help to design electrical box's, per clients needs.....

I have been working at International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Decent pay if your working, good benefits but depends on what local.

    Cons

Even good journeymen will likely have to seek work out of jurisdiction. Tons of work in Denver right now, but most non union.
My local has no vacation, leave, and mediocre health plan. Non union is offering similar pay with all above benefits and better health care.
To many unfulfilled promises with work outlook.

    Advice to Management

The cw worker program has not made the ibew anymore competitive than it was before.
Need to stop nepotism before it destroys the union completely.
Most shops in Denver area are no different than non union shops.

I have been working at International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (More than 10 years)

    Pros

You are not going to lose all your benefits when you get laid off or fired, at least right away. You will work with more of the most qualified electricians you have ever met. A job done by them is the safest in the world.

    Cons

The nepotism in this organization is rampant. Advancement is largely due to who you know, not what you know. That being said the people do the job correctly in spite of what they were told to do to make sure things re correct and safe. The person in charge takes credit for the proper installation. the price that's paid to be a professional.

    Advice to Management

The union allows to many rules to be broken, pretending not to know about them.
The management( Owners) should ask more questions as to why a less experienced person has been promoted.
