I have been working at International Chamber of Commerce full-time for more than 5 years

      Pros

      International staff. Located in Paris.

      Cons

Chairmanship and senior leadership positions at ICC are filled by men, with rare exception. In it’s 100 year history, ICC has never had a female Chairman and has had only one female Secretary General. A couple token females are on the executive board. The Steering Committee is all male with one exception. The staff is 90% female, all in support roles and middle management or deputy roles. A real glass ceiling. Very patriarchal...

I worked at International Chamber of Commerce full-time for more than a year

      Pros

Insider access to the procedures and dossiers managed by the International Court of Arbitration. As the real rules are unwritten, you have an unparalleled chance to learn them. And meet all the players.

      Cons

Highly political, ethically suspect. High turnover as good staff, even at the very highest levels, are fired or squeezed out all time, usually for acting with integrity or for suggesting positive change.

      Advice to Management

      More transparency!

      Pros

The visibiliy of your profile as an international arbitraiton lawyer is relatively high. Work / Life balance is good Medical insurance (French state supported) is fabulous

      Cons

Limited internal career growth Poor supervisory skills since those who supervise you do not have any training in management Restricted initiative on independent projects No space for personal development Low level of transparency on HR issues, recruitement and etc.

      Advice to Management

I would recommend leaders at the ICC Internaitonal Court of Arbitration learn to lead in a more inspiring way, communicate their strategies better to employees, start setting an example through transparency in decision-making, demonstrate integrity as people not just lawyers, show geniune interest in the work of subordinates and rely less on tightly-knit 'arbitration' mafia circle of the usual suspects, open to new people...
