Interesting international working environment surrounded with professionals from whole world with different professional backgrounds and work experiences. i worked in different departments which enriched my knowledge and skills in a different level which added a different aspect to my career.

    Cons

Facing all about the war crimes that took place in the country where I was born and lived. For certain numbers of years I was in direct contact with those who survived or ... committed the worse crimes against humanity.

Cool internship experience, but no chance of getting a contract

    Pros

Some of the smartest people I've ever worked with, and great professional development as long as you go looking for it. Supervisors are willing to give assignments based on your interests. Excited cases going on at the moment.

    Cons

Work is sometimes tedious and trivial. Don't expect any perks except for a free coffee every once in awhile. Absolutely zero chance of getting a contract. Legal Interns taken for granted and under-appreciated. Some bosses exploit the interns by giving them massive assignments, while I was there I saw interns sometimes working until 8 or 9 at night. Remember, this is an unpaid position.

    Pros

Very interesting opportunity to work as an intern on cases involving war crimes during the war in Yugoslavia. Opportunities to learn a lot about the conflict.

    Cons

Too many interns in the intern program, so there is not enough work to keep everyone busy. Means that sometimes you will have work that is repetitive and doesn't contribute much to the team.

    6 month internship

    Pros

Staff is really devoted to giving interns opportunities to learn and willing to put in extra time to review CVs/cover letters, give feedback , etc.; opportunities for language skills classes at a discounted rate

    Cons

Unpaid so internships are geared towards people of a certain socioeconomic status, cannot apply for a position for 6 months following the internship.

Great Experience but Where's the Money?

Jan 20, 2015 - Legal: Office of the Prosecutor in The Hague

    Business Outlook

    Pros

ICTY was very familiar with 3-6 month interns, and effectively knew how to quickly train their interns to be competent and effective and knowledgeable about whatever case they were on. Plus, now we can say, "helped prosecute war criminals" on our resume.

    Cons

ICTY was, and I believe still is, "winding down", so very few full time or paid positions were opening up, so an internship would not lead to anything more than an extended unpaid internship.
