I worked at International Flavors & Fragrances full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The flavor capabilities were amazing. The technology and resources for new product development were outstanding. Loved the sensory capabilities, and crossfunctional teams that I worked with. Got to do a little bit of business travel, but not too much.

    Cons

The small group/office politics really got old. Especially if you didn't want to play the game, and just stick to business.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your people. There are so many opportunities within the company, that you shouldn't loose talent to competition, unless you really want the person out.

I have been working at International Flavors & Fragrances full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Very interesting business! Great history behind the company. Most people work there over five years and passionate about the company.

    Cons

Work-Life balance in most cases is not there. Career ladders not existent unless you are on very senior level and reporting actual Leader. Benefits are on decline. Many jobs with global responsibility have no tools to successfully do it.

    Advice to Management

Provide safe environment to try new ideas. New managers should listen to the history and culture, and stop repeating same mistakes.

    Pros

The company has a nice internal culture. All employees are very kind and care about what are you doing and how are you doing. It's a place that motivates you to deliver the best results.

    Cons

For me the only downside was the distance I had to travel everyday.

    Pros

The benefits are decent, co-workers are great. Close to home for me.

    Cons

They have lowered their pay scale over the years by not giving decent or even any raise for years. They used to be the industry leaders now they are mediocre. Every time they take a benefit away they use the excuse, "industry standards". Most management hasn't co e up through the ranks so don't know the Fragrance business as well as most long term employees. They have closed ears to suggestions and experience.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees, especially long time ones. They know, they've seen lots of things success or fail. Start giving better raises to lower level employees, the worker bees. Perhaps to match the success of the company which they have a lot to do with.

I worked at International Flavors & Fragrances full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Outstanding salary and benefits, free fragrance samples, pretty good catered food, summer hours, generous vacation time/PTO, tons of informational meetings to learn more about the company, looks great on your resume.

    Cons

Terrible holier than thou management culture, no clear opportunities for growth, pass the buck attitude, horrible communication amongst the different departments.

    Advice to Management

Not sure if it's the stereotype about French people walking around with their noses up or not, but management indeed walks around on invisible pedestals as though anyone below them isn't worthy of conversation. There should be more positive exchanges between the higher ups and lower level employees. That might aid in fostering a more enjoyable work environment and help boost the retention rate.

Current Employee - Anonymous Employee in New Brunswick, NJ

    Pros

Pretty good pay, nice people, opportunities for advancement if someone carries you. Opportunities for international work. Best of both worlds: big company resources, small company cross-functionality and experience.

    Cons

Few opportunities for career growth unless you are ex-military and have supply chain experience. The company is in love with ex-military personnel for some reason regardless of how poorly they perform, NA sales and performance shows this. Manufacturing safety is a recent escalating problem. In an effort to cut costs low experience or unqualified supervisors are being hired and in turn number of incidents have gone up. Same is true for operators and technicians, who are hired from the entry level general population vs workers that have technical experience (and require a higher pay). This also results in huge turnaround in manufacturing and any advanced technical procedures are quickly lost.

    Advice to Management

Changing the logo color pallet wont fix your problems.
