I worked at International Paper full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There are no positive things I can say anymore!

    Cons

Used to be a good place to work when it wasn't IP! All jobs that could possibly be contracted out were gotten rid of and lower payed, unmotivated contract employees were brought in to replace all of those who lost their jobs! Former employees were given the option of staying as contract employees with less pay and no benefits! The CEO was taking millions of dollars a year in bonuses while average employees were losing their jobs and benefits! NICE WORK IP!
Managers at the site, (I worked over 20 years at), were unfairly chosen and promoted! Most of them didn't know their job as well as the operators, and didn't even have degrees!
If you brown nose and kiss up you can get ahead at IP. Otherwise, if you're simply a good employee, ambitious, punctual, conscientious, etc. but don't "hang out", or are related, you won't advance at IP!
It's a good place to start your career if you are an engineer. (Low starting pay but good on a resume!)
Safety is a low priority with IP! They talk the talk but they definitely don't walk the walk! It's all window dressing! PRODUCTION IS KING! I witnessed people running around like crazy working on equipment without anything being locked out simply because 'this is costing us $50,000 a minute every minute we're down!' And if someone says something about it, they are labeled as a trouble maker and their career at IP is done!

    Advice to Management

Clean up your act! Recognize employees who want to succeed! Those employees will carry you and make IP a much better company!
Get rid of the nepotism, unfair diversity programs, and the Good Ole boy system! Reward employees who do their job! Advance those that go the extra mile, not those that just want it handed to them because of who they know!

I worked at International Paper full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Pays relatively good but frozen after that.

    Cons

For some reason is hell bent on hiring incompetent leaders, people have actually died because of this.

    Advice to Management

Ditch the Reach Engineer program, it is killing morale amoungst your loyal long-time employees who actually worked to earn promotions but do not get them because you want to have younger inexperienced people as managers. Pure insanity!

I have been working at International Paper full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Fairly good pay, great coworkers
Supervisors though treated very poorly and very overworked are helpful and good to work with.

    Cons

Only 1 week vacation after a year, taking 3 yrs to get 2 weeks. Working 6-7 days per week. If you have the misfortune of being a new hire you will probably be made to work 12 hrs per day 7 days per week, even if it in the sort area.

    Advice to Management

Employees need weekly time off to rest, recover and enjoy their lives. with out the necessary time off , people are not as productive at the workplace. the Golden rule applies here, treat the employees how you want to be treated. We are tired disappointed, and most of us are searching for new employment.

I have been working at International Paper full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits and pay is pretty good.

    Cons

Have no outside life. Lots of hours. Stuck in same position forever. Human Resources is the worst I have ever dealt with. They are there for the company, not the employees.

    Advice to Management

Increase morale within the company by allowing employees to move around and advance. They aren't robots.

I worked at International Paper (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Nice people, free food sometimes, it is a paycheck.

    Cons

Very long hours, don't expect overtime pay if you are salaried or even comp time. Almost no sick leave, terrible medical. Working weekends on a rotation and sometimes night shifts too. I talked to other plants and it is the same through out the company, everyone works long hours with no extra pay. That is their culture.

    Advice to Management

We have families/children that want to see us once in awhile. Don't take advantage of your workers.
