    Pros

IP has sent me to all parts of the US. I have worked on several different projects that allowed me to take ownership and receive credit for the work that I accomplished. IP has been understanding and supportive when I needed them to be. The pay seems to be on par with other careers. Upper management is accessible and as friendly as I would expect an executive to be. I am very satisfied working for IP.

    Cons

Relocation is a necessity if you want to move up in the company. You could just stay at corporate, but, unless you have prior experience in the field, you are only going to move up so far before you level out.

    Advice to Management

I think senior management has done a good job managing IP. I would recommend that the value of a person if the field is worth a lot at the end of the day. Consolidation and complexing is good to a point, but like everything else, you can have too much of a good thing. Packaging in the US is not a growth market. Contine to retain customers and treat them properly. If IP is going to be a cashflow company, we need to take care of our equipment, our employees, and our customers.

    Pros

I really enjoyed the job, the pay was good and I learned a lot. My immediate manager was great to work for.

    Cons

They made a really hasty decision to shut down an entire mill that has always been profitable (was still profitable at the time of shut down) to send business to an over seas mill. They made a cost cutting goal for us to help the company (mind you we were still profitable) and we doubled the cost cutting savings and everything was looking good. We were all proud of ourselves with posters plastered throughout the mill letting everyone know we exceeded our goals, then one day one of the hireups came and shut us down.

something like this can happen at any time. As long as the International paper mill you are employed arent in the crosshairs, the job is great. but you dont have to be in bad shape to be shut down.

    Advice to Management

I guess the only advise I would give is to think things out when you decide to shut down facilities that are making you money. even as the doors were closing on this facility, there were orders that needed to be met. this was a really bad decision on your part and from what I understand, the man responsible has been pushed out of the company

    Pros

Good benefits: Health, dental, EAP. Salaries are higher than the national average. I liked that fact that IP does give back to the community.

    Cons

Little sharing of information by management which results in a lack of clear direction as to what is expected. Limited resources to meet goals assigned.

    Advice to Management

Directors and others in managementment positions need to be more open with employees on where the company is going strategically. This will allow the employees to work toward helping the company meet the goals. Develop clear job descriptions. Most important, communicate, communicate, communicate.

Company is very ethical and fair. Advancement opportunities are available to those who work hard and look to expand their contributions beyond their current role.
