A good company for growth but you need to take the initiative.

Nov 7, 2022 - Analytics Manager in Memphis, TN

    Business Outlook

    Pros

IP has a lot of good opportunities, it has been a place I have recommended to friends to work and several have done well and others have become stagnant and left. What I would recommend for anyone who wants to advance in this company is to be direct in what you want to do long term with your manager. Most people who struggle are waiting to be told what to do versus trying to build their careers and finding people to champion them. If you don't like networking and building bridges, IP's culture focus on relationships will be burdensome.

    Cons

New employees are onboarded and integrated into the company poorly. This has improved slightly in the last 2 years but many senior leaders are fixed into their mindset of you don't know anything till you have been at the company for 10+ years.

    Pros

If you are looking for a company that doesn't seem to have layoff's, this is your place.

    Cons

If you want to move up in this company, they force you to move to Memphis. So many opportunities for me were not given to me because I refused to move when they could be remote jobs.

    Good Company for Growth

    Oct 24, 2022 - Engineer
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Fast paced mill environment that allows for constant learning/skill development, good support at facility level from corporate groups, salary is higher than industry average, the company is large and allows internal transfers if positions are open at other sites, resources aren't an issue if they are justified, safety is a top priority, lots of community engagement, the company gives back to the communities the mills reside in

    Cons

The pulp and paper industry is not for everyone, work-life balance can be an issue especially at sites with continual operational problems, under performers tend to be moved into new roles rather than being fired, company "sponsors", while not a must, appear to be a big leg up if one wants to move up in the company
