Great Cause, sketchy structure
Jan 28, 2021 - Executive Administrative Assistant in New York, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Very flexible working environment, family-oriented
Cons
The new restructuring has killed many employees' morale, let alone lay-off 33% of their personnel. The RD's agenda may conflict with the organization's plan and created a negative impact on job security and trust in the place

People are awesome!
May 3, 2017 - Anonymous Employee in New York, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
1. People are passionate about their work. 2. Flexible schedule with good reason. 3. Depending in your area, the people are very kind. 4. Benefits are superb. 5. Great place to learn and start a career. 6. A lot of vacation time.
Cons
1. The pay is very very low. Supposedly there is "no money in the budget" yet front office management get promotions to themselves and hire more people to their benefit. 2. The directors are great people but manage their budgets horribly. 3. The turn over in the accounting department is super high, looks like their people realize their high worth then move on to better companies , their management hires the right people but cannot keep them happy to stay. 4. Career advancement is very rare unless you have a close relationship to your supervisor. 5. Yearly annual reviews are just filed, no review is actually considered. 6. A slow disconnect is happening between departments ever since the Trump election.

Disconnected leadership; burnt out staff
Jan 20, 2016 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Great colleagues - very smart, committed, caring and fun. Good benefits and very family friendly culture.
Cons
In a period of significant transition, the extremely disconnected senior leadership and HR team are driving the organization towards a lack of transparency and dysfunction where power is increasingly concentrated in a very small handful of people; this results in seemingly arbitrary and uninformed decision-making. Internal communication is very poor, with staff at all levels incredibly burnt out. While most of the individual teams are strong, they are overworked, ignored, disempowered and do not have the resources needed. Although the work on the ground is impressive in many countries, a culture of dysfunction reverberates throughout all of the IPPF offices.

Pros
There are many smart and well connected people on staff. It's a great environment to learn in and colleagues to learn from. Decent salary and benefits.
Cons
Utterly hierarchical. Lacks strategic direction. The right hand often doesn't know what the left is doing. Little room for advancement. There are people in senior leadership who are verbally abusive and coercive to colleagues with impunity. Lip service is given to work-life balance, but expectation that the job comes first.

Great Organization to work for.
Feb 22, 2016 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Having worked with many other NGO's I can attest to the fact that this Organization does care for its staff. i have worked at the UN were they treat their people with disdain and do not care about their well being. Here they actually care to ask you how you are feeling and what they can do to make your situation better.
Cons
There is a handful of toxic people here who do not like the fact that things started to improve in 2014 when there was change at the senior management level. They felt threatened and are now trying to cause disruptions.

Organization is going downhill
Feb 1, 2018 - Anonymous Employee in New York, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
My colleagues continue to be the only pro to working here.
Cons
The CEO and upper management have lost touch with reality. The environment is toxic and everyone is worried about their future. It seems that our jobs are at the whim of the CEO. We all feel that we are not valued.
