I worked at International Rescue Committee as an intern

    Pros

The mission of the organization really motivates you to work with your clients. I interned at a resettlement agency and found the work both gratifying and humbling. At the resettlement agencies, you don't gain anything technical wise though you do learn a lot about how to interact with the IRC clients because many of the interns engaged in face-to-face conversations.

    Cons

I didn't have many cons. I got the sense that many of the employees in my office didn't have the best idea what the other employees actually did which led to problems in who the clients can go to for their problems. Additionally, I found management kind of scattered at times unable to make proper decisions.

    Cons

I did not find any cons in regards to the work environment and employees. Only con I guess would be that the IRC could use more funding.

I have been working at International Rescue Committee as an intern

    Pros

Dedicated and passionate staff. Extremely compassionate individuals who genuinely care about helping clients to the best of their abilities.

    Cons

Underfunded. The IRC works diligently with the limited funds provided to create the greatest benefit for the clients possible while still sustaining the organization's structural needs. It would be fantastic to see an increase in funding for this organization and similar humanitarian nonprofits.

    Pros

Fantastic organization to work for. Amazing people with a real passion for helping others. My supervisor is a saint.
The work: Also awesome. Got to work with clients a ton, was really doing the work with full-time employees. Got to develop relationships with clients, really heartwarming experience. (So did minimal admin stuff) Had opportunities to practice Arabic and Spanish. Never got anybody (but myself) coffee. Loved my time there.

    Cons

It's hectic. Point blank. But that's what you're signing up for and it's really so worth it.

    Advice to Management

Just thank you for the great experience.
