It had been better, hoping to restore balance soon
Sep 14, 2020 - Database ManagerRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The company has a big mission to bring refugees from harm to home. My team had been perfect when we had the right people for each role. My current managers are very understanding of personal circumstance and wiling to work with you to balance out work and life. Day to day is filled with challenge tasks and time can go by very fast if you like what you do.
Cons
Leadership has been changing a lot in recent years, causing unclarity. From time to time, you have to figure things on your own and step up for multiple roles. You could be overworked and this could well be the normality across the board.

The people make the IRC what it is
Jul 23, 2018 - Anonymous Employee in Silver Spring, MDRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The staff at the IRC is diverse and brings to the table so many different perspectives and experiences. Everyone is passionate about social justice and advocating for the rights of refugees. The work is challenging and there is a lot of it. IRC hires many former interns and volunteers.
Cons
Your experience depends on your supervisor and team (some supervisors are better/more attentive than others). As an intern or AmeriCorps, you have to fight to have your voice heard. The political climate makes the work extremely difficult to complete due to severe restrictions in staffing and funding. The refugee resettlement field in general is under attack and it impacts morale of the staff. Little or no work life balance - you are often required to work outside the typical 9-5 schedule.

Good work culture and work-life balance
Nov 18, 2021 - Anonymous Intern in New York, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I did two internships at the IRC (one in the RAI department, one in the R&D department) and enjoyed both. I appreciated the good work-life balance and warm environment in both teams I worked in. Overall it felt like a good place to intern at, I felt like there was room for growing and learning as an intern.
Cons
Only one of these internships was paid (at Airbel), and it was a generous stipend but definitely not enough to make a living.
- Current Employee, more than 10 years★★★★★
Pros
ambitious culture, worthy cause and great people
Cons
very busy - work life balance can suffer a little
