I worked at International SOS full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Global workforce so you meet interesting people
    - Service provided is valuable
    - Feel like you're making a difference
    - Good benefits, however you pay a lot for them compared to other companies
    - Work/life balance was acceptable

    Cons

    - Internal infrastructure/service delivery is unorganized and getting anything done is like pulling teeth
    - Company does not practice most of what they preach to clients
    - Lots of internal competition that management will not address
    - Sales Management does not have sales experience
    - Remote employees are unsupported and often have to wait days to get answers to their questions/help
    - IT/technology is disappointing and not what you'd expect from such a global company
    - Commission structure is purposely convoluted and constantly changing

    Advice to Management

    - Focus your efforts on improving employee engagement and service delivery: you'll see sales increase as a result
    - Develop opportunities to become more competitive in the marketplace
    - Solicit honest feedback from employees by engaging with them on a daily basis
    - Place more women to senior leadership roles

I have been working at International SOS full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - The services the company offers to clients are wonderful.

    Cons

    - Company seems to react first, and think later.
    - There is no work life balance. There is lots of TALK about a belief in work life balance, valuing employees etc., but in actuality if you are salaried they will squeeze as much out of they as you can.
    - Treatment of employees in departments that generate revenue is dramatically different from employees in necessary back-office positions. If you're in the office it's as clear as looking at the portions of work space that are newly renovated, and the portions that have rips in the carpet and holes in the walls.
    - Messaging from management is inconsistent.

    Advice to Management

    - I can't tell is the owners are greedy, or if the company doesn't do well financially, but the way the company operates I feel like it has to be one or the other. If there are financial problems they need to be more transparent to the employees, because right now my impression is that the owners and management are just pulling every penny they can from the company,
    - A survey every year or two is not an effective means of getting regular feedback from your employees. Perhaps if the executives actually worked in the same office as the employees (not in Jersey City) they would understand how poorly some of the departments are functioning.

    Cons

Heavy work load and no life balance. Be prepared to work on your PTO days.

    Pros

Fair wages and benefits; hardworking coworkers and most everyone contributes; flexible environment - challenging but rewarding work...company always seems financially stable

    Cons

Always construction going on; disruptive...not enough focus on cutting edge technology

Encouraged to work even if you're sick - managers passively praise staff for working from home when they're sick

    Advice to Management

    Listen.

    Pros

Employees are engaged and have a strong sense of pride in what they do. What this company does on a daily basis is very tangible as such employees feel a sense of accomplishment.

    Cons

Company is in a "growing" trend and as such people might feel disconnected. Management has to continued to communicate out to ensure everyone understands the direction of the firm and their roll in the growth.

    Advice to Management

Management is going the extra mile to provide communications to all. Actions that surfaced through the engagement survey are already being addressed.

I have been working at International SOS full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Opportunities to practice language skills daily for those who are bilingual. They do test you on it in your interview so come prepared.

    Cons

There is no diversity throughout the company. In fact, there is not one black face in upper management. NOT ONE. Even in most countries where they operate, upper management is all white, European men which is absurd to operate in Africa and have no Africans or people of color in country leadership. And if you are a black woman? Forget it. The most recent one was demoted and now on her way out and the other one before her has never gotten a promotion. Ever. Make your own judgement.

    Advice to Management

Your company operates in all corners of the globe for clients from all walks of life; you should represent that in action, not just empty promises.

I worked at International SOS full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Rank and file employees were close as they had to stick together. Good camaraderie.

    Cons

Company loves its clients until they attempt to replace ISOS as their assistance provider. Contract renewals are heavy handed and one sided. Employees asked to do very difficult tasks in dealing with clients.

    Advice to Management

Treat the customer as number 1. Always. The client is king. Don't put company goals above the needs of clients or their employees in need. Don't over promote what you have accomplished. Embellishing accomplishments is risky.
