I worked at Interstate Batteries full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

An unbelievable, positive, collaborative work environment where everyone leaves their ego at the door. They truly live by the golden rule.

    Cons

Compensation is not always in line with the industry.

    Advice to Management

Don't lose the special sauce that makes the company culture so unique.

I have been working at Interstate Batteries full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Culture has the right direction. Team building should be leveraged to engage it more often! The biblical principles create a relaxed environment where you feel free to talk about Jesus. That is a rare thing these days!

    Cons

Everyone has their own plans to gain promotion which leads to everyone defending there agenda without input. Just because you listen does not mean you are actually hearing your employees. If an employee's plan or idea turns out fruitful, then give them more opportunity to have actual contributions!!

    Advice to Management

Let your employees flourish. Give them the ability to spread their wings. You are attracting great talent. Learn how to empower them and in return keep them!

    Pros

The people, the brand, nice work area, and Norm Miller is a good man. Shame he's not more involved in leading.

    Cons

The pay scale, the high turnover rate, "matrix" organization but leaders don't take responsibility or ownership now. Don't care much about their distributors or national accounts anymore

I worked at Interstate Batteries full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

They are a Christian company and have always been fair to employees, especially those who were released during reorganizations.

    Cons

Hard work is required. But if you enjoy what you are doing, it's not really work is it?)

    Advice to Management

Continue to take input from all employees, not just those in leadership positions.

    Pros

Purpose and Values are real. Really great group of people. Christian values. Best battery brand in the business. Miller family is really special.

    Cons

Low margin business but Interstate is the market leader. Corporate office location isn't ideal for a commute (635 and Coit).

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work - you guys are on the right track.

    Pros

Good people and benefits with chaplain.

    Cons

The leadership of that time claims to be reasonable and understanding, yet when they get bad information, they react without remorse or consideration to others.

I worked at Interstate Batteries full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

New management open to new, progressive ideas. Christian centered company with many perks as an employee that you do not find anywhere else.

    Cons

New management has allowed for known-bad managers and leads, that are horrible at treating people to remain with the company and to keep abusing and mistreating employees. They are not hiring a lot of new positions, but rather leveraging contractors for a lot of roles, thus limiting growth opportunities. Everyone is overworked and underpaid and in many cases underappreciated.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees when you get consistent reports of a manager mistreating employees and being unprofessional.
