I worked at Interstate Batteries full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The owner puts on a good face initially.

    Cons

Everyone is family, if you disagree with them you will be reprimanded. The pay is low and the work is hard and the hours are long. It would be different if they showed some appreciation for their employees, but the attitude is "it is expected".

    Advice to Management

The owner should try to be more of a team player and not expect his employees to do what he would not do. Try earning respect.

    Pros

IB has an excellent value system, culture is wonderful if you are a middle aged white male. Lots of opportunities and low hanging fruit to be a standout performer. Flexibility to be with family and friends

    Cons

I found myself at lunch today with a group of team members and the conversation of women at IB came up. Seriously just take a look at our executive team, zero women, VP's? Zero! Directors, 6 females, and 3 are in the same department. It is disappointing to see the lack of female leadership at IB, however, if you are a minority female, the path is so limited, darn near impossible. There are only 2 minority female managers in the home office. That is insane, we have had more in the past but each of them has been pushed out, or demoted to individual contributor roles. One of the highest ranking black women in the company was just moved over to a project role this week! Another one was moved to an IC role last year after transforming her department and helping us do HR better, some just leave, the list goes on and on. Hard to trust and relate to leadership when there is no one who looks like you.

    Advice to Management

Take a look at the organization and be honest that there is a problem. If you don't the problem will become something you can't control. People that work here like it and they want to stay, but if the right things don't change soon no matter how many reorgs we do the company will never reach the level of greatness we all want.

    Pros

    Mon through Fri, steady hours.

    Cons

Management is disconnected from each other. One will tell you one thing, and someone else will override that.

    Pros

Interstate is a family oriented company that works hard to take care of their employees. We have great BBQs, company events, etc. that are centered around having fun and being with good people.

    Cons

Can be a little busy and crazy but overall its a great place to work.

    Advice to Management

Continue to listen to the employees and get our feedback on how to improve things.
