I have been working at Interstate Distributor full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good miles, good at getting me home when needed. I have had overall good experience with fleet managers.

    Cons

Not all of the trucks are equipped with APUs which can make it uncomfortable in very hot and very cold weather.

I have been working at Interstate Distributor full-time

    Pros

It used to be a really good company to work for in the beginning then it all changed.

    Cons

The new ownership requires some new policies for personnel that are not favorable.

I worked at Interstate Distributor full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Company was great to work for. Tight knit, friendly, and eager to help peers and fellow employees. It was truly a nice place to work for.

    Cons

pay was way below standard at all levels from drivers all the way to operations.

    Advice to Management

Hopefully under the new heartland buyout, pay will increase. Interstate lost a lot of good folks due to terrible salaries and wages. While the company culture was great, ultimately it doesn't pay your employees bills.

I worked at Interstate Distributor full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Nice and helpful people employees

    Cons

Hours vs. Pay. Hurrendous customer service dept. Truck maintenance (they look good but don't run good). New trucks are stripped down autoshift trucks governed at 63mph with no APU, yet they have a no idle policy. Micromanaging veteran drivers and unrealistic delivery schedules to compensate for excessive detention times at most of their customers in the temp controled division .

    Advice to Management

Get a grip on your CS training and provide them with knowledge on DOT HOS rules.
Do not profit off the drivers time by using high detention customers and then collecting 4x the detention money you pay to the driver.
Don't tell drivers not to idle trucks in hot weather when you don't have APU's
Fix the brake issues on your autoshift trucks. Grinding brakes are not normal reguardless of California's new brake rules.

I have been working at Interstate Distributor full-time

    Pros

Not many pros to speak of at Interstate

    Cons

Too many chiefs and not enough indians. Mid level management don't do any of the actual work. They simply sit on conference calls all day. Poor comminication through out the company.

    Pros

The dispatchers care for their drivers. The trucks are well maintained.
They are working toward a better work/home life experience.

    Cons

They are too money oriented to keep the drivers well paid. The management and support is staff is to top heavy and the drivers are lost in the shuffle.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your long time and experienced drivers for their insight and how to handle customers and freight.
