I worked at Intertek full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people here were the reason I came to work every day. The work is interesting and perhaps unbeknownst to management, you have a lot of freedom to come and go during long incubations.

    Cons

I worked here for 4.5 months and witnessed four layoffs in that time, the last of which I fell victim to. Management hires lot of people when there's a lot of work, wastes thousands of dollars training them, and then lays everyone off when work starts to slow down again. They even called me back to see if I wanted my old job back, but for a $6/hr pay cut. Insulting. Towards the end, people started to get competitive and catty just to get ahead so they would keep their job.

    Advice to Management

Hire good people, train them and keep them. You're getting a reputation for being a volatile and unstable company and that will eventually cause prospective employees to skip right over your listings.

I worked at Intertek as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Intertek has a laid-back work environment in which the employees work hard as well as play hard. The employees are some of the greatest people you will meet in your career, and if anything, they will be the driving force to why you would stay. A reasonable place to start your biotech career as you'll soon realize there are better companies out there who actually care about their workers.

    Cons

It's all about the money. Management will compliment you and use you when they need you, but will forget about you the moment you finish the job. Don't feel bad though, they'll lie to everyone's face not just yours. The VP will say one thing and then do another. Not only do they carry out shady business to get by, the moment they mess up and lose clients, they will not have any remorse laying off dozens of people who worked hard right before the holidays.

    Advice to Management

You have no idea how high I can fly.

I worked at Intertek full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent salary, decent benefits and not a terrible corporate culture.

    Cons

The specific location I worked at was not the best - management would constantly bad mouth other Intertek offices and labs. Inadequate training (if at all). Management not receptive to any feedback.

    Advice to Management

Learn to develop an actual training SOP and learn to understand that Intertek locations may not be as staffed as yours.

I worked at Intertek (More than a year)

    Pros

20 PTO days for new hires, reasonable benefit rates.
I have met some incredibly talented people and especially some friends who I will keep around for years to come. Some senior/executive level management are great too, but unfortunately does not count for much when they are not your own manager.

    Cons

Intertek is incredibly top-heavy and does not appreciate entry/junior level creativity or ambition. Intertek is a great place to build your resume but definitely not to start a career. Unless you want to be a doormat.

    Advice to Management

Realize that people come to work every day to support you. Please invest in your staff.

    Pros

Generally good folks working for the company. Flexible time.

    Cons

Once you move up so far with your salary, they will get rid of you for younger, cheaper labor. Plus, they outsourced IT and created a slow, inefficient system that everyone hates.

    Advice to Management
