I have been working at Intertek as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

They provided me a job when one was needed.

    Cons

No communication between the field and the in house staff. They do not go out of their way to help, they listen, but nothing else.

    Advice to Management

Have better communication with your employees and better understanding of the inter workings of the company. Fight for your team members

I worked at Intertek full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Friendly People, benefits, and close to home

    Cons

Intertek doesn't pay what people are worth. Degrees mean nothing to management and they frown on people that take college classes because they believe that you should be at work all the time. They give you work to do for 3 people and pay the employees very little.

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees what they are worth not what you want to make your bonuses. Managers should not tell their employees that that have to prove themselves to get a raise and that all you have to do is woke hard to get ahead, in fact that is not the case in today's society all we have to do is go to college to get ahead.

I have been working at Intertek full-time

    Pros

Good benefits to start. On a local level there is a high sense of camaraderie.

    Cons

Lots of red tape/redundant processes, almost no compensation/promotions offered for hard work. Very little upward movement available. Overhaul of upper management still somehow ended up as an Old Boys network and trickles down to all of the labs in one way or another

    Advice to Management

Start rewarding your employees for their hard work. If you don't do anything to fix your retention then you will lose all of your talent and all of your success. You are nothing without a hardworking team. Intertek is great for training their employees for them to take their skills elsewhere.

I have been working at Intertek full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Big company, stabile industry, cool opportunities to see leading edge products in the market, fun to tinker and test different products every day, interesting to understand global compliance. Good stepping stone to build your future

    Cons

Senior leadership holds enthusiastic employees back from growing, Many have a limited mindset of only understanding their own narrow job description, Not too many lateral areas for growth (generally only vertical up the chain which takes a while). Middle management and operational management is heading in the right direction, but there seems to be a huge disconnect between higher management. The front lines workers think its all about the product, where the actions from above seem to show its more about the acquisitions and number shifting that really matters. Not a place you would spend your whole career.

    Advice to Management

Invest in a leadership development program. Acknowledge those who go above and beyond by giving them the ability to make a difference and help change the processes to be innovative. Keeping with old ways and not re-evaluating how things are done constantly through tips directly from the workers, only slowly degrades the market advantage the company had. Once good people realize their worth and understand the other opportunitie out there; it wont take long before they leave. The ability to jump to our many clients is always there. Train the employees well enough so that they can leave, but treat them well enough so they want to stay.

I have been working at Intertek full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

There is a lot of room for growth as it is a large company. Very into getting employees involved with company marketing.

    Cons

Too concerned with the bottom line with little concern for customer relationships. Work is piled on to employees with no incentives.

    Advice to Management

Better raises to show appreciation for the hard work the employees do.

I have been working at Intertek full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good place to get your foot in the door and grab some experience. Overall a pretty decent job.

    Cons

Most employees are long time friends which creates a very biased work environment. Can be very overwhelming at some points.

    Advice to Management

Needs a lot of work in my opinion. They should put a little more effort into seeing what employees are really putting forth their all to impress the company and its customers. Give them a little appreciation sometimes.

I have been working at Intertek full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    People are tops! Good benefits.

    Cons

Poor communication, employee turnover, poor change management. Poor alliances between departments.

    Advice to Management

Sad to say that response time of this large corporation often hampers a competitive edge. Even contract reviews are slow before they are returned to clients. Employees find it easier to find work around than use the IT.
