I have been working at Intrado full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - telecommunications industry has a lot of technical problems to solve - Stable job and income - Still dog friendly office

    Cons

    - Accrued PTO - Explained by WTS president that West will not attempt to compete with Seattle software engineering market on salary. "If you can find a better place, great! Take my resume with you" was the summary of words used. - Recently told by WTS president that software engineering at West is "slow." This is disheartening because the Flowroute culture has thrived moving quickly and developing new technologies... along the way. I see much more work to be done on fixing tech debt to integrate into the corporate atmosphere than working on products themselves or fixing tech debt for scalability or maintainability. - Bonuses only for execs (per West policy) - General office atmosphere has dipped in morale since acquisition.

    Advice to Management

    - Actively demonstrate you value culture beyond words. - Take the time to listen to your employees. - Plan the next software acquisition on the west coast in a way that demonstrates research of the current market and company values.

I have been working at Intrado full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Developed here for a short time, but management seems nice enough. The experience so far has been positive, and the job seems to be pretty secure.

    Cons

Working for a large corporation always has it's downsides, including bureaucracy and slow-moving progress as many interests have their say in the direction of projects.

    Advice to Management

Same as I'd advise any management team to do, and that is: make sure you keep listening to your people and their ideas.

I have been working at Intrado full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Cafeteria onsite, covered parking, gym and locker facilities, good 401k, good vacation package

    Cons

Poor hiring standards, massive rolling layoffs, no pay raises in the last 3 years

    Advice to Management

Stop with the layoffs already and stop burning out your employees. You are giving the perception that you are cutting and dumping the company. You are losing great talent because the culture has become extremely toxic. You are going to start losing your big paying clients. Get rid of the outsourcing mentality too. You think hiring two substandard people to replace one great person will save you money, it won't.... These people have no incentive to learn or make solid designs, you are going to lose clients and the company will no longer be the juggernaut it once was. This is so sad, I once held this company in high esteem, no longer and I will tell people to look elsewhere.

    I worked at Intrado

    Pros

It's pretty stable. As economies go up and down, there are always reasons to teleconference.

    Cons

Management recently got rid of some toxic leadership, and is steadily improving, but they still have work to do.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your people. Balking at training tells them you don't value them, and robs you of skills, loyalty, morale, and reputation. Treat your people as if you believe they are worth what you pay them. Make them proud to be there. You fail at this, horribly. Every person should *expect* a week of dedicated, relevant classes every year, maybe twice a year, usually offsite. Nothing will improve your workforce... retention and productivity more.

I have been working at Intrado full-time

    Pros

The salary is good. The hours are flexible and working from home is an option. Many of the staff are very capable people and good to work with. This might be a good place to work if you are a good salesperson or in management. The time off policy is generous.

    Cons

I had not planned on writing a review but there were several emails recently asking folks to write reviews. One wonders why they would ask this when there were layoffs in my division last week. The timing was really bad for these people, with holidays starting 2 weeks away. Lets just say the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. There is a lot of management but not much leadership. The style is almost... military, very much top down. The top managers do not converse much with staff. Or each other - the place is very disorganized. The company has grown by acquisition, so there is little synergy across the groups. Morale is low. The group that had the layoffs is very profitable, but the revenue was less than projected. I don't think the managers that failed to project accurately were let go. There have been 2 or 3 years where there were no raises, understandable when a company is not profitable, but this was not the case. Much of the development has moved outside of the US.

    Advice to Management

Get out of your office and talk to the rank and file. Think about innovation instead of just cost cutting.

I have been working at Intrado full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Interesting and challenging work. Ability to work from home.

    Cons

Management is disconnected from team and work load is not distributed equally

    Advice to Management

Need better project mgt. Lots of wasted time because of poor planning, which leads to lots of hours worked near the end of release.

    Cons

Management does not verify creative innovative contributions

I have been working at Intrado full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Expectations are surprisingly low and job requirements are as well.

    Cons

Security isnt a high concern. Making meaningful change is actively fought against. The company will buy a product and force you to use it without consulting the development teams. Deadlines are absolute, but you will be forced into taking risks. Requirements are nonexistent or not meaningful enough to actually build anything with.

    Advice to Management

You are the problem. When developers come to you with ideas embrace them. Make strides to actually get developers in a position to implement their ideas.

    Pros

Soda... There is nothing else that is a pro

    Cons

everything else - wake up Mary.... Your people are not happy at all and that is because you spend more money on making sure people don't say bad words as opposed to making a quality product. But you won't listen anyway, will you? You cannot make mistakes... g.b.

    Advice to Management

Wake up and stop thinking that you cannot make mistakes. But then again, you wouldn't listen anyway because you are Intrado and you couldn't make mistakes, right? After George and Stephen sold the company, everything changed. Stay away unless you are desperate. Oh yeah, forget having an opinion, it will get you fired....
