Still some anxiety about the future - based on the checkered past.

    Advice to Management

Keep on going with the new ethos, bring in career ladders and promoting from within.

    Pros

The technology is only good thing in Intrexon.

    Cons

Business always is first!! Low values, Low morals. Scientist work really hard with no incentives. Communication is really "bad" between director and scientist. Scientist are super stress!! There are reasons you see really bad rating at Intrexon, most of the are real! Money is not everything!!

    Advice to Management

Increase values and moral in the Company

    Pros

A technology focused biotech company with high aspirations for changing the world through its various business sectors. Small management team for a large company allows for quick decisions.

    Cons

Frequent changes global strategy and changes in the executive management can make for an unsettling work environment

    Advice to Management

Focus on generating quality data for the early stage programs. Promote internal assessment to evaluate company wide job performance, both for management and for employees to know what could be done better.

I have been working at Intrexon full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Joined in Spring/Summer, 2015. From the inside, the SSF bioindustrials site feels very stable, yet dynamic, and has all the things I hope to get out of a job in a smallish company. Leadership is good. Bob Walsh appears to have created an environment where the site sells projects which it can execute on and grow to commercialization. Talent is top notch, drawing mostly on the best from local pioneering bioindustrial companies. Management is fairly lean and realistic, not unwieldly and surprisingly accepting of new technology development toward concrete goals. Generally a fun place to work.

    Cons

Intrexon has a rocky history of buying small, sometimes failing, companies. Integration can be difficult and C-level leadership has no compunctions about closing existing sites, clipping personnel at all levels, and doing whatever it takes to grow the company. There is no apparent effort to grow personnel, even at the SSF site. Strategy is buy and cut everything to fit.

    Advice to Management

plan for internal personnel growth as soon as company trajectory allows it. Do something about your rotten Glassdoor reviews

I have been working at Intrexon (More than a year)

    Pros

Learned what type of company not to work at ever again. Has a lot of potential (read as has cash/ deep pockets) to get technology to market but fails to organize and manage projects accordingly.

    Cons

Nepotism at its finest- if you are not laid off in less than a year its probably because you know how and who to schmooze with to get by. No real management or strong leadership to guide progress on projects. Very high turn over rate in all divisions, so morale is very low.

    Advice to Management

Company needs competent management team and talented leadership to get projects off the ground. Synthetic biology is getting a nasty reputation to prospective investors because of companies like Intrexon. Intrexon management needs to learn how to change this reputation and learn not to over sell synthetic biology to prospective clients.

    Pros

Able to gain experience, if you don't get laid off

    Cons

Unable to advance technologies because very talented employees are laid off before the great advancements they are working on are able to be implemented

    Advice to Management

Be more open about layoffs and allow career advancement for talented employees instead of laying everyone off without trying to find new opportunity's for loyal talented employees already in place
