I worked at Invensys as an intern

    Pros

I had the great experience of working on a small team developing a mobile application. It felt like what I was doing mattered. My bosses and managers were very friendly and helpful. The hours are flexible and there are free vending machines.

    Cons

The downside of working on a small team was that I felt a little bit isolated from the other interns.

    Advice to Management

Expanding the dedicated intern room or creating another one would be nice. I liked the creative and playful atmosphere of the intern room when I stopped by occasionally.

I worked at Invensys full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

As a global leader of controls and automation solutions, Schneider Electric's Process Automation (formerly Invensys) division has the largest portfolio of products on the market--by a large margin--over competitors like ABB, Siemens, GE, and Rockwell.

    Cons

Since their acquisition by Schneider Electric, Invensys management has been systematically eliminating non-Invensys customer facing resources through political manipulation and intentionally inflicted organizational chaos. The ways in which these resources have been terminated have resulted in a large volume of customer frustration and disappointment with the Schneider Electric brand, and an increased awareness in the industry of the unethical ways that many of these resources have been let go. Discrimination of all sorts has been observed and recorded in these exit interviews and it is not a good sign for the Process Automation (Invensys) division of Schneider Electric.

    Advice to Management

You have a cultural corruption problem that won't go away with additional acquisitions, including any desire you might have to purchase GE or other Process Automation provider. You need to hire an external consultant to surgically remove the bad actors you have acquired before they destroy your business further.

I have been working at Invensys full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of learning experiences and chances to work on new things. Bouncing from project to project with very different problems to face.

    Cons

Revolving door of management and staff in general. Every week or so you turn around and someone either went to a new group or left the company.

    Advice to Management

Invest more into your staff even in the struggling projects. Give credit to the people who commit to doing things right not just fast.

    Pros

    Good salary
    Flexible hours
    Good benefits
    Generous vacation

    Cons

    Management is everchanging
    Lack of direction
    Low company spirit
Excessive outsourcing (they call it co-sourcing but we all know what it is)

    Advice to Management

The board needs to find leaders that are more interested in leading the company rather than cashing in on their signing bonus after 12-18 months and the leaving. Invensys has had no clear direction in the last 5 years or more due to the frequent management turnover.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

The pay is okay, the benefits are good. Some aspects of the work are challenging and enjoyable. There are people who try to "care" about you.

    Cons

Growth is not really an important aspect of working here. You may have ideas on how to do things better, but unless you are in management you don't really get listened to.
Management often uses a command and control (and sometimes threatening) approach to making people do work. Real team work is uncommon.

    Advice to Management

Management are typically promoted to managers through demonstration of outstanding technical expertise in an area, however once becoming a manager, they continue to manage by imposing technical constraints on a team. They need to learn how to be managers of people instead of products.
