      Pros

Invitae's success in the clinical genetic testing space is a product of many factors. Its patient focused mission is certainly one of those. Employees believe in patients-first and practice it. It's refreshing to work with so many kind-natured people who truly want to make a difference within healthcare. There is a lot of flexible within teams so there are opportunities for "stretch assignments" and new challenges. The talent is top-notch and new ideas are supported. The remote-friendly structure and unlimited PTO make work/life balance possible and reduces a lot of stress. The office environments are comfortable and the amenities make it easy to get as much work done as possible.

      Cons

The flat organizational structure leaves little room for growth in roles. For example, there is a wide range of skill and experience for people within the same role because roles lack tiers and hierarchy.

      Great Mission, Poor Management

      Pros

Some really great coworkers Mission helping people's lives

      Cons

No diversity in engineering No career growth, 'flat' org No work life balance, praised for working till 1am and weekends No useful performance reviews: you just rate everyone above or below each other in for 'skills' and 'teamwork'. When you work with product, engineers, designers, how do you compare 'skills'? And how does this actually tell you how you are doing? Managers are just looking out for their own optics and not investing in their employees

      Pros

Great benefits You run into great people Pays well.

      Cons

No work-life balance My manager does not care about my professional development My interests come only after I completed the team's priorities. And that's what they sell: Team over individual. I agree to a certain extent, but they do burn out people.

      Great mission, poor management

      Pros

The company has a great mission and has some amazing people

      Cons

Sink-or-swim mentality, no work-life balance, and poor management means you need to find people to support you. They are constantly re-organizing the company so the chance you'll eventually have a bad team or boss are high. LOTS of politics.

      Not worth it

      Pros

The work that we were doing is fulfilling, the mission is great, 95% of the people that I worked with were amazing. Good benefits.

      Cons

Rampant favoritism within the management team, company is disorganized on all levels, little to no career growth (supervisors sabotage their underling's opportunities), zero work-life balance, sketchy stuff happens in the lab, hemorrhaging money on buying new companies that don't bring much to the table, HR is useless, management is completely ineffective. Unlimited PTO, but how dare you want to take time off. There is no transparency. The ethos and culture that was so important in the beginning is completely dead.

      Great place to work

Jan 15, 2020 - Agency Coordinator in San Francisco, CA

      Business Outlook

      Pros

A company with a great culture, work/life balance, benefits, people, and bright future. It has a culture of openness and encourages questioning what you think is not working.

      Cons

As it grows through several hiring binges, seems the cultural value is being diluted. Started to see more top down, do what I say and don't question, type managers.
