    Pros

Friends and relationships that last a life time. Great benefits after you deploy. College benefits start after basic training. Pride.

    Cons

Favoritism towards promotion. Pt tests. Lack of sleep. Lack of good food.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your Non-commissioned officers. As well as soldiers that have been deployed before, especially if they have been deployed multiple times.

I have been working at Iowa National Guard full-time

    Pros

All the benefits and pay of active duty but with common sense and Iowa nice which means less than half the BS of big army.

    Cons

It is hard work to get and hard to keep. Every negative comment about it being who you know is almost true, you can't just walk in with a resume. You have to board and the competition is intense. The recommendation of someone whom the board members trust is more powerful than what the applicant thinks about themselves. The Iowa Guard is a family, and most who work together work hard but become good friends. When you are rejected, it feels like nepetism or favoritism is to blame.

    Advice to Management

    Be awesome

I have been working at Iowa National Guard full-time

    Pros

Pay is above average, and benefits are excellent.

    Cons

There is no benefit to putting in extra effort; people are promoted based on who they know, not how well they perform; there are no bonuses or extra time off. Your peers get paid the same as you, so don't overextend yourself for nothing.

  8. "Good educational benefits"

    Cons

    takes up weekends, slow promotions
