I worked at Iowa Ortho full-time

    Pros

Excellent providers - phenomenal experience and exceptional service. Provider experience and expertise is unprecedented. Very easy to work with and allowed flexible scheduling.

    Cons

Extremely poor management involved in non work-related drama; no professionalism executed between management of different departments. Borderline sexual and workplace harassment. Constant workplace gossip between management and staff regarding other staff.

    Advice to Management

Focus on patient care and the actual WORK tasks at hand. Leave home and non-work related matters OUTSIDE the workplace. Staff is only as professional as they observe their management to be. Asking in an interview how the potential employee handles drama is a red flag to most high-quality recruits...you might as well ask how they also tolerate sexual harassment too.

I have been working at Iowa Ortho

      Pros

Great hours, no weekends/nights, close to home, great PTO, wonderful providers, great co-workers, fun holiday parties.

      Cons

There is no one to feel comfortable speaking to when there is an issue in your department. If there are issues with other employees behaving in unethical/unprofessional ways, there is no one to go to because supervisors/leads/and upper management are all close friends. Individuals are afraid to speak out. In addition to that, there is the issue with pay. Radiolology technicians are paid very generously and competitively....

      Advice to Management

Please find a way for employees to feel safe without the fear of retaliation if they have an ussue that is affecting their work life. Perhaps a comment box/anonymous way to voice concerns. Please consider when hiring non-Rad Techs in clinical positions, that there are being paid competitively. Also take into consideration the years when determining compensation. There is currently an opening for my same position, that...

"Some great physicians, management is horrible"

I worked at Iowa Ortho full-time

      Pros

Competitive pay, decent hours. some are able to work from home.

      Cons

Management is horrible. There is a lot of gossip that goes on with management towards employees. Micro managing and if you speak your mind, you then become a target (meaning you will be pushed out the door either because you choose to leave because you've had enough, or they will 'find' reasons to fire you.

      Advice to Management

Grow up and realize that keeping good employees is far better than constantly hiring new ones. The companies that do not have a lot of 'turn over' are the ones who TRUST their employees, they pay them well, they offer them incentives and they LISTEN to them.

I worked at Iowa Ortho full-time

      Pros

Outstanding medical practice with strong physician staff, solid benefit package, 401K contributions and desire to be the best

      Cons

Staff felt the hours were very long and underappreciated, Change in leadership was difficult for staff. Shifting responsibilities and change management skill are required to be successful.

      Advice to Management

Create a full safety committee which will review OSHA and JC requirements and report back on improvements in employee reporting and train employees on appropriate protocols with a check off system.

      Iowa Ortho Response

      January 25, 2018Director, Human Resources

Thank you very much for your feedback. We are pleased your work with the physicians! Hours can get long in healthcare. We wish it wasn't that way, and as you can imagine staffing to prepare for unexpected long hours is difficult. No one wants to just sit around because they are ...

I worked at Iowa Ortho full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

The Doctors, nurses and close co-workers that I worked with closely every single day. Standard 401K, PTO decent Monday through Friday (as long as you weren't upper management)

      Cons

Upper Management hard to get in contact with Gossip High turnover

      Advice to Management

Worked for Iowa Ortho almost 3 years.. multiple departments, no issues until upper management changed. Gossip and negative comments about other people (didn't matter which department you worked in). Honestly, it's just straight bullying. If you brought up fresh original ideas, words were twisted to make you look horrible. A private conversation usually turned into retaliation and false accusations of being unapproachable....

I have been working at Iowa Ortho full-time for more than a year

      Pros

Doctors- they are amazing! Basic staff are amazing and super close with each other. Pay is good for a clinic Hours of clinic are great.

      Cons

Micromanagement-continually being told by my manager what to do and how to do it. I am a very educated individual and a quick learner. Once I know how to do something I do not need someone standing over my shoulder and stating that each and everything little thing is wrong. At all my other jobs I have been praised and awarded for the hard work and great job that I do! I love what I do and my job just hate knowing my management...
