    Cons

People dont say hi, I just don't get why. Company culture seems to be lacking but if all you care about is money this is the place for you

I worked at Irvine Scientific part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Cons

Poor management, high turnover, no communication, very HOSTILE work environment.

    Advice to Management

Please pay better attention to the well being of new employees

I worked at Irvine Scientific full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-Some really great coworkers, though many end up leaving for better opportunities.

    -Close to The District.

-Decent salary for entry-level positions, less than average in the industry for other positions such as product management.

    Cons

-Horrible management, the non-Japanese executives and managers are so disorganized it's ridiculous and always blame those under them for their own errors. Anyone not in a management position is treated like dirt.

-Hostile work environment, the management creates an atmosphere that makes everyone scared that they will be terminated for any mistake they make.

-They like to hire friends and relatives, so they will terminate employees to bring them in.

-Extremely high turnover, I've seen about 10-15 employees terminated without warning in the past year alone, or leave because they can't stand the work environment anymore.

-Never any food provided to employees, even the holiday celebrations are potlucks. People scavenge for leftovers from manager meetings.

-Ridiculous deadlines, for example they will ask people to submit major things such as next year's budgets and give them only 2 days.

-HR is pretty much nonexistent/doesn't do anything.

-Performance review is a joke, they'll create a "plan" for you saying you'll be sent to training programs and classes but it'll never actually happen because the company is so cheap.

-Favoritism is clearly prevalent, this place is like a fraternity, if you're not a part of the "in-crowd" or don't kiss up to the managers then they won't like you.

-Management lies, if they want to fire you they will straight up lie in front of you and HR about the reasons for your termination.

I think that's about everything, you've been warned! Don't let the decent pay fool you into thinking this company is a great place to work for. There are very few employees who have been here long-term which should speak for itself.

    Advice to Management

Learn how to manage efficiently and effectively without creating a hostile work environment. Appreciate your employees instead of blaming them for your mistakes. Maybe reward them with a free lunch every once in awhile.

I worked at Irvine Scientific full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great coworkers that are friendly, supportive, and easy to work with (particularly those not in management), but all the good ones leaving and dwindling in number

    Cons

    - Lower pay scale compared to other biotech companies
    - Unclear and extremely vague expectations for promotion (takes forever if it even happens, usually if there is some sort of major company shakeup or mass exit)
    - Terrible and unprofessional management that rewards brown-nosing and punishes those who actually work hard
    - Disregard for employees of lower rank (managers treat them like servants)
    - Hostility between departments due to personal vendettas and paranoia between managers
    - Blame shifting (usually subordinates get blamed for managers mistakes or forgetfulness)
    - Pretty much non-existent HR that does nothing

    Advice to Management

Either need a full wipe of toxic managers or major retraining (if that is even possible..)

I worked at Irvine Scientific (More than a year)

    Pros

A handful of hard working employees. Unfortunately they are the ones being underpaid with work contributions overlooked.

    Cons

During my time with IS upper management displayed an enormous lack of professionalism, ethics, a great deal of disorganization, dysfunctional and often a hostile work environment. There is no knowledge or concern for work life balance. Inappropriate behavior is prevalent and unfortunately overlooked.

    Advice to Management

Clean house and take some much needed training on how to lead and adequately manage successfully. Management should be leading by example.

I worked at Irvine Scientific full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

If you like spending time laying low, hiding in a cubicle and not doing much, this is the place for you. Super NOT challenging and FULL of politics including a COO who micromanages EVERYTHING.

    Cons

    Where to start.

They don't respect or value employees. Senior management does NOT communicate with the rest of the company and leaves EVERYONE in the dark. They pull rank all the time and waste time talking about things that are pretty easy to resolve.

The budgeting process is ridiculous. They give you 2 days to put together an annual budget that will eventually get slashed arbitrarily anyway so whatever you plan, forget about it. You don't get time to really do a good job and once you submit the budget, it takes 4-6 months for them to approve it. Everything is controlled by the Japanese main company.

The marketing is so old school it's almost funny. They develop products the marketplace doesn't even want or need. There are so many SOPs for everything. Other employees act like high schoolers and try to find mistakes you make and promptly CC your boss on an email instead of just letting you know directly.

This company has been in business for over 40 years and is trailing WAY behind competitors.

Even if you work here, you won't be paid very well. Don't waste your time.

    Advice to Management

Get some leadership training and take better care of your employees. Trust your employees know what they are doing and let them do their job.

    Pros

    Friendly co-workers, friendly working environment.
Relatively easy work, no sensitive deadlines to meet, if you are looking for a rather relaxed working environment, this place could be a good fit.

    Cons

if you are coming from a larger company, your work and interactions with some departments can feel like whack-a-mole everyday. sometimes it can get frustrating, but overall small improvements are slowly being made.

    Advice to Management

culture here is formed top down. be empowering instead of hostile
