I have been working at Islands Restaurants part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Everyone starts at host ussually and moves into other positions so you'll have experience in most positions around the restaurant after some time.

    Cons

Getting stuck in some of the positions before server can happen due to staffing issues whether its there's too many people in the position above you, or there's not enough staff in the position you're currently in so you'll be needed to stay in that position till more employees are trained and successful.

I worked at Islands Restaurants part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Offer benefit options even for part-time employees. Typically scheduling can be flexible. The environment is friendly and you'll quickly find yourself a part of the Islands cult-I mean-club.

    Cons

It can be REALLY hard work (welcome to service baby), be ready to get a workout. Everything really will depend on your location and your management. I have worked for 4 different Islands locations - 2 regularly and 2 as a temporary help. All 4 locations were VERY different in how they operate, share tasks (or don't), and what is tolerated and what is not. So...it's difficult to tell you what is a con about this company because it really is going to depend on which location you are applying to work at. All that being said - work for Irvine or Newport Beach location - Islands excellence in all its glory.

    Advice to Management

Advice to management would be to be actively engaged and involved in the wellbeing of your employees - mind, body, and spirit. It's difficult because 1. it's a workplace and 2. Islands tends to be high school and college kids just making some side money, but it will mean a lot to your employees and you may gain insights on how to better set up your team for success by understanding each of your employees personally and how they interact with others and vice versa.
