I have been working at Israel Discount Bank of New York full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The Bank's exiting CEO Ehud Arnon has deep banking experience and is very knowledgeable and excepted by our client base while at the same time has excellent people skills and cares a good deal about all employees.

    Cons

The primary reasons for working at the Bank are slowly fading as pension, holidays, bonus and merit have been cut to the bone and the underlying water cooler talk is of looking else ware as the market is improving in some areas.

    Advice to Management

As an Israeli subsidiary there is not much local management can do other than deliver on the demands of IDB Limited our parent. As the cash cow for the parent, we have little options

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at Israel Discount Bank of New York full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    additional holidays
exposure to all types of tasks/departments allows for deeper understanding of the operations
    somewhat informal environment
    pricey, nonetheless excellent medical coverage

    Cons

low morale throughout the institution, starting with administrative staff and going up to SVP level.
Lending divisions are micro-managed by top
    understaffed departments
    low compensation / bonus structure
lack of training and promotion within
Promotions based on personal relationship with a specific management team and not based on merits, leading to undistinguished "leaders" in control

    Advice to Management

Training and encouragement goes a long way and does not cost much. Talented lenders are leaving. What's left behind are mediocre staff collecting their mediocre compensation. "My way" may no be the best way.

    Pros

Great Employees, Learning / Cross Training Environment, Holidays, Vacation and overall close knit relationship with group/team colleagues.

    Cons

Senior Management seems to have a disconnect between themselves and individual departments. They tend to make decisions that disrupts the continuity of the departments that are involved with
the day to day operations, and the decisions have downward spiralling effect not only on those departments, but the Bank itself.

    Advice to Management

Reach out and involve your Department and Group Heads to get their advice and feedback before implementing a short sided plan.

    Pros

Some very good wokers throughout other departments at the bank who really care and have spent years working for the bank.

Management out of touch with workers who actually understand the day to day issues impacting the bank. Some department heads micro manage their departments even though they have very reliable and compedent managers.

    Advice to Management

It's time to listen to the people who work very hard and not just to senior people at the bank.
