I worked at It's Just Lunch full-time for more than a year

    Pros

You get to meet some interesting and successful people via IJL's clients.

    Cons

Poor pay, the sales pitch isn't at all what is going on behind the scenes. It can feel so hopeful at first to help people find a match for themselves, and these people shell out a lot of money to do so, but ultimately, you're at the mercy of the franchise owner, or whomever is handling the matches who may or may not actually listen to what the client wants.

I worked at It's Just Lunch full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Decent pay, nice office, working with people from different backgrounds. Interesting job, something you wouldn’t think of doing. Could have potential to help change someone’s life.

    Cons

A scam. A literal scam. Over priced. Employees are told to lie to customers. Terrible customer service tactics, told to tell clients they aren’t invested in themselves when they want to cancel memberships. Matchmakers make intentionally bad matches just to get to a quota. Matchmakers call old leads and try and con them into joining just to meet a sales goal. Management refuses...

It seems as though you did not work for us for very long, which may explain the numerous inaccuracies regarding our customer service, clients, and integrity as a company. IJL Midwest values a positive work environment, where employees invest themselves in the success of our clients ...

I worked at It's Just Lunch full-time for less than a year

    Pros

It's Just Lunch strategically pays their Inside Sales Representatives $50K/year as a base so that they could hire quality people to fill the position. Also, the branch managers are hard workers and care about their employees.

    Cons

I have similar complaints as other former inside sales representatives. For one, while IJL has commented on Glassdoor that they do not call clients that ask to not be called, that is untrue. We were trained by more than one manager to ignore the request and still call everyday at least three days in a row. The phone number and information is still in the database for the reps to call, so the comment that employees do...

    Advice to Management

At most professional offices, "reply all" isn't used to acknowledge someone in Rock Star emails. You can forward your message to the actual Rock Star. You can combine "Clients Ready For Dating" and "Please call your clients before 6pm" email. Just suggestions. It will give your reps extra time to make calls if things were streamlined.

    Pros

    - opportunities for bonuses and extras by just doing your job well - culture among fellow dating directors is fun, humerous

    Cons

    - culture of management is fake: they act happy but it's just a tactic to push you - you're in a customer service roll that runs like a sales role: you have to hit your numbers for dates to be set even when it encroaches on customer service - you set dates under less than ideal conditions: you may get a 5 foot guy, an obese person with nothing else going for them, an age that has no age matched in that city, or a...

    Advice to Management

Be more honest with your employees. The ability to be authentic internally, solve problems creatively, and laugh about the reality is a relief. Employees do it among each other but then have to listen to you pretend and be super high energy sales-y toward them in meetings every week. These are not sales people - they are customer service! Also, tell people in interviews what the job can really be like. Let Dating...

    Pros

    - Great learning experience in a unique industry

    Cons

    - Owner doesn't care about employees (no benefits were provided) - "Directors" (sales) were cutthroat and came off as extremely fake - Clients were spoiled and rude and would blame dating coordinators for their inability to be successful - Directors would bring on just about any client to hit quota, regardless of whether or not we had appropriate matches for them in our active...

    Pros

Matchmaking sounds glamorous, I liked some of my co-workers, commissions paid twice a month

    Cons

Lots of OLD leads, encouraged to strong arm potential clients into signing contracts, sign clients that may not meet demographics for adequate matches, cost to join service very expensive

I worked at It's Just Lunch

    Pros

The idea and concept are great and in a few rare instances they actually make real matches that may even last.

    Cons

The bulk of their clients are matched just to meet quotas and not what they are looking for in a person, I could not morally stay there any longer, I feel so sorry for their clients that get sucked in by their clever marketing and sales scripts.. DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY ON LIES, and staff, if u want to sell lies then work there, if not, STAY AWAY!!

    Advice to Management

Take a class on morals and ethics or resign, or both!

    Pros

    Cons

If you want to be a robot then this is the place for you. Being micro managed and being forced to sale lies to customers is not a great. All the managers sound like they are programed like a robot to talk the same as they do and want you to do the same. Its crazy its like a cult. You are forced to sale dates that are even matches aslong as they get the money. I had customers...

    Pros

The staff is nice and tries their best to be helpful. You work from home and have the flexibility to move around your home office.

    Cons

You sell to people who trust you and then are not involved in their matching process. There are not enough men to match with the women and people are sent out on dates that are absolutely terrible matches for either of them just to get the client out. It is a terrible waste of the client's money. They sell dreams to these people, are on a quota, and you won't make any money,...

I left a lucrative position because of an unpleasant work environment. I was told by the recruiter the rookie was making $50,000 a year..so not true!
