I worked at Itron full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

decent pay, especially for this area
manufacturing and R&D under one roof
relaxed work environment much of the time

    Cons

It's located in West Union SC and there is hardly anything to do there
There isn't very many other places to work in the area so be careful buying a house
The products they make are pretty boring to the general public
Many or most of the people there are pretty old
they don't have a fitness center and wont let you throw frisbee in the grassy fields

    Advice to Management

give more incentive to meet goals and deadlines
work closer with the design engineers and notice who is actually doing the work

I have been working at Itron full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Clean work environment as long as you stay away from the epoxy equipment. Great people besides management.

    Cons

Management has no clear direction on anything. No bonuses. No profit sharing. Hard work will get you nowhere. No chance of moving up.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on your employees than your shareholders.

I worked at Itron as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Leading edge technology in a fast moving, vulnerable industry. Established corporate security team and guidelines to keep up with today's protection standards. And applying those protections to their products.

    Cons

Standardization of the evaluations of existing products has not yet taken hold.

I worked at Itron as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good people working there. Nice building with a gym and a cafeteria, in a good location for getting fresh air.

    Cons

Completely restructured organization 9 times in 3 years. Never gave any new management plan a chance to take hold before throwing it out and replacing it. Announced a huge new project that would be the future of the company, then laid off a quarter of the company.

    Advice to Management

Commit to a plan. It takes two years before you can see the effects of your changes. Build teams; don't just try to throw bodies at a problem at the last second. If you want to use contractors but don't trust them to do their jobs, give them one year to show you if they're worth keeping and then hire them on full time.

I worked at Itron as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

    - the people that work there are really great to work with and the people on my team were really smart
    - pay is good
    - never boring
    - the management is very safety focused! This is a very important quality in my opinion.

    Cons

    - it tends to be pretty busy most days, but I think that is just the nature of manufacturing.

    Advice to Management

Continue to be conscious of the opinions and suggestions of operators, technicians, and engineers - people notice and really appreciate it.

I worked at Itron full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Freedom to make positive changes (sometimes), it's also a company with very good benefits.

    Cons

Some managers didn't have our backs when it came to dealing with the customer. Management consistently ignored their SOP (one that they created) and would throw employees under the bus (and proceed to drive it over them). It's as if they were afraid to tell the customer that they are/were wrong.

    Advice to Management

Clear communications with employee and follow the plan. If there are changes to the plan make sure this information is passed on to the employees ASAP. Be accountable (something that is stressed to the employees by upper management).
