I have been working at Itron full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

great opportunities to work cross functionally, management is listening and there are more and more training and advancement opportunities.

    Cons

there are some very old school thinking managers here that do not allow simple perks, like flex hours, etc. luckily there are not many left

    Advice to Management

keep it up! the focus groups have obviously helped tremendously.

I have been working at Itron full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Itron is full of smart, hard-working people developing cutting edge, exciting technology. The culture is one of respect, honesty, and mutual support. I actually like coming to work every day. To my knowledge, women are paid on par with men and have very good career opportunities.

    Cons

Management has been working hard at organizing to handle our ambitious development schedule, but there's still a bit too much chaos and flying by the seat of our pants. Keeps things exciting though!

    Pros

Itron is a global electric metering company. I joined in a mid-level position from a higher position with a small company. If you are interested in the field, or in smart grid, Itron is the place to be at the moment. They are expected to have a very good couple of years as many utilities spend stimulus money on products that Itron sells

    Cons

Itron is not the best place to work if you're interested in software development and energy consulting. While there are good opportunities in these areas, don't be fooled by the clean tech aura that Itron has. It's fundamentally a metering company, and that's where investment and focus is at the moment. Many of the employees in the software division have been there since the acquisition of smaller companies, and they have been absorbed into the bigger organization. Sr. leadership in this area is questionable.

    Advice to Management

While software is a small portion of revenue, it is what makes the grid "smart". Put appropriate resources to it, and bring in solid technical leadership with experience developing consumer and enterprise software solutions.

I have been working at Itron full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Large on-site gym, sand volleyball and basketball in parking lot, friendly and appealing work environment, casual attire.
    Business is strong and steady.
3 weeks vacation after 2 years.

    Cons

Since it's in a small town the salary isn't as competitive.
Sometimes the pace of change is quite slow considering the fact that meters don't change a whole lot.
Self-improvement isn't rewarded. The rate of progression in the company is set in stone, so working extra hard doesn't pay off.

    Advice to Management

Profit sharing is excellent, but would be even better if it wasn't paid out on such a sliding scale. I would be great if everyone got the same amount, instead of getting a percentage of your salary. Upper management seems a bit greedy on things like this.
