I worked at Itron full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Itron had the best customer focused delivery methodology with a focus on high quality delivery and a high level of customer support. Itron had a detailed project management methodology that matched industry best practices and resulted in a great deal of positive documentation and useful deliverables. PM management was very supportive and positive in employee growth though not always capable of providing a career path.

    Cons

Competitive industry resulting in sacrificing services profitability in order to sell product resulted in over committing resources and causing scope grief and resource constraints later in the projects. Lack of solid plans for industry leadership due to a huge focus on investor returns while sacrificing ingenuity and avoiding risk.

  7. "Personally, I am inexperienced with industry jobs."

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

I've never really had any experience in any industrial plant because my work history is really slim when it comes to actual tax paying jobs, locally. So, I am definitely in the job market that offers on the job training.

    Cons

Having to have the job training skills, with what little work experience I do have.

I worked at Itron full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Cleanest manufacturing environment I've ever seen. High tech, fast paced, friendly coworkers, beautiful setting in the upstate of SC. You can't beat the location. The pay was decent for the area. My manager let me develop skillsets that I otherwise wouldn't have had the opportunity to. Best group of engineers I had the pleasure of working with.

    Cons

The pay isn't top notch, so talent walks off. Management withholds their evaluation until mid term and end of year. It's hard to feel motivated and to judge how you are in line with their expectations.

Upper management, even at the plant level, is very tight knit. It's a club. Your growth is limited to how much they like you. Entry into mid level management is 50% hard workers (who've earned it) and 50% 'pals' of other management.

    Advice to Management

I know corporate screws you over on budgets. They want to offshore the manufacturing site (which will hurt them long term). If you have a newer employee who makes more than higher performers with higher seniority that have been screwed out of pay increases due to poor company profits, just tell them. Don't use the performance review as a 'mask' to even out pay - don't scare away employees by making them feel inadequate and that their performance is lacking. Cut it to them straight. They will understand.

    Pros

Easy going atmosphere, challenging but rewarding work.

    Cons

Working odd jobs and finding more meaningful work to do during dead times was difficult at times.

    Advice to Management

For the co-ops and interns, give them more meaningful work.
