The team I worked with was great and supportive. They worked on interesting projects and let me contribute to the final product.

    Cons

I don't really see much of a con in this company. Very satisfactory.

    Advice to Management

The job is very competitive but the compensation is not.

I worked at Ittiam Systems full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Work that you do is good and covers a wide range. You get to design, implement, test, talk to customers, participate in planning and so on.
Motive behind decisions are very transparent.
Highest level management very approachable and understanding of employee's problems.
Doing multiple things in parallel is good in a way that you'll learn how to balance work and life.
Having said all that work/life balance for me was good. But, there were people who would struggle with this. It could just be the team or a problem with their planning. It really isn't easy to say which one of them is the reason.

    Cons

Doing multiple things in parallel is bad in a way because you cover width and covering something in-depth will require focus from your own side.
Work culture was good in one of the teams I worked in. But, overall, its kind of pathetic. People don't say no to work even though it isn't possible and start cribbing behind. How about a little honesty.
Lot of people just fool around during the day and stay late to finish up which kind of screws up the dynamics of the work culture.

    Advice to Management

Encourage people to take offs and be on time on work days. Having relaxed regular work days is a luxury that people don't know how to handle. Be strong and say that we can't deliver, if not possible. Don't take things that you can't do and end up forcing people to work more.

I have been working at Ittiam Systems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lot of responsibilities for a fresher.

    Cons

Low salary compared to other firms in similar industry.

    Advice to Management

Try to maintain the key people in the firm. Try to stop attrition. When one leave, it starts an avalanche of people leaving firm

  5. "It was a great company to work with for right out of college graduates."

    StarStarStarStarStar

    Pros

Less hand holding from Seniors in the team, and get to work on varied stuff in quick interval of time. One gets to experience all cycles of sofware development cycle if you are willing to work for it.

    Cons

Less job training, hence you run scared when you are new to the company. It still functions like a start-up so you need to adapt to quick changes in direction of the project. Less supervison, hence you get less direction for the higher ups.

    Advice to Management

Hire more experienced people, so that the teams have better foresight. This also inspires new recruits to learn more from their time here.

I worked at Ittiam Systems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Learning on the technology side is really good for young engineers. Unlike other companies, engineers get to work on technologies end-to-end.

People development is very good. Esp. in terms exposure to handling pressure, high-value projects, managing people, interacting across different teams.

And engineers who think that you cannot go anywhere with the skills you pick up at Ittiam, think again! You are being myopic if you think you cannot!

    Cons

The complexity of projects on the business front is less, unlike larger corporates.

Not for the light-hearted. Get in if you want to do serious work and be focused while at it. And don't mind stretching at the cost of personal life.

Because the company is cost focused, some of the perks available in other companies is lacking - good transport, in-house cafeteria, work from home.

Gender balance can actually be an issue! Most tech companies today have a good percentage of female employees.

    Advice to Management

Take a few risks. Take the plunge and pull off a product which will be used by millions of users.

You have always handled complexity in terms of technology. This next puzzle of solving problems at scale is a skill best learnt with practice!

Provide laptops so that employees can WFH if required - helps to reduce employee burn-out. Figure out how you can make that work with your constraints!

Should spend more on employee training. Expectations of self-learning can hamper product quality in long run. There are excellent online learning options; do provide these to employees.

I worked at Ittiam Systems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

If joined as a fresher exposure to technology and overall systems is high and high learning rate.

    Cons

    No work life balance.
    Management never cares for employee.
Dirty politics in few teams. As a result many high talented people are pissed off and left.
Not a place for a women as policies are very hard and management doesn't bother to care.
