I have been working at Ixia full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Plenty of interesting products to work on
    - Some brilliant engineers to learn from
    - Flexible hours, decent work/life balance
    - Changing teams can feel like changing companies (indicating strong empowerment)

    Cons

    - This is a company that's always forced to stay ahead of the technology curve, so deadlines are very tight most of the time. This often results in questionable design/architecture choices.
    - Software architects don't have complete freedom of decision regarding design, coding standards, quality metrics etc. Often times their position is purely consultative, the big decisions end up being made by middle management (who usually cave in to pressure from upper management to get things done quickly)

    Advice to Management

Do one job well rather than 2 jobs poorly. Allow architects full power of decision over technical matters and limit your involvement in these. Focus on employee well-being. Don't impose complicated processes and rules. DON'T treat people like "resources"! Make it your top priority that your team should be happy and motivated.
