I have been working at J.B. Hunt full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The people are good to work with. The hours are flexible. If you like wearing a lot of hats this is a great place. You will do most of the analysis on a project then design and construction.

    Cons

Hard work isn't recognized. You have to fight to get a good salary and promoted. Also the whole IT department is not funded enough. People are assigned unrealistic timelines. It's almost like IT management is afraid to be honest with the business about resources and time.

    Advice to Management

Be realistic with goals forced on people. If you assign a 1 year task that realistically requires 10 people, then don't reprimand the 5 people you assigned to it when they are behind. Perhaps increase the IT budget or lengthen the timelines.

I have been working at J.B. Hunt full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good people, solid advancement opportunites

    Cons

Pay is a good 30-40% lower than equivalent jobs in other industries. Benefits are costly. 401k match is lacking in comparison to other local employers.

I worked at J.B. Hunt (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good Benefits and the proprietary software are actually pretty good.

    Cons

Usual, over worked and under paid. Upper management is completely disconnected from what is actually going on.

    Advice to Management

Manage your numbers not your account. Upper management doesn't care about anything but what it looks like on paper. Make sure that your answer is always yes. Never turn down a possion move even if you don't want it. Upper management looks at you as though you are not a company man/woman.
