    Pros

good work life balance, engineers get to work on cool and interesting projects, good recognition for job well done, great people. It's a great place to start your career and get a lot of experience quickly.

    Cons

salary and benefits below market for the role, maybe not for the transportation industry. it's a bit good ole boy company and career progress can be slower than other places

    Advice to Management

    Pros

Solid company with a stable future. Executive management is good as it gets in transportation industry. Even during the tough economic times, while everyone was cutting employees with no human regard, JBH management was exceptional in finding ways to prevent such harsh cuts. Company truly works hard everyday with safety culture.

    Cons

Compensation. There's a reason why 65% of the corporate employees work second jobs rather than spend the time with their family. The company is very top heavy with salaried lower/middle management. This makes for some confusion at times.

    Advice to Management

OTR is what got you where you are. JBI and DCS are taking you where you're going. I understand upper management gets it, but middle management not so much. They preach it, but don't get it. Use your customer base in DCS and personel in brokerage to start up air freight. You have 85 great new locations to utilize as cartage agents.

    Pros

The opportunity to work independently amongst your coworkers. The opportunity for bonuses and pay raises if the outside branch as a whole functions successfully. The opportunity to work for a Fortune 500 company with a solid financial statement and longevity in the marketplace. Outlook for this company for continued future growth looks positive. Individual field branch structure allows for the will of the Director to determine unexpected, 'right-now', time off if necessary. Personally, in my branch, I had a very flexible Director.

    Cons

Substandard appearance in knowledge of the 'brokerage' industry by executive management. Annual budgets are often overridden by executive management, thus causing unrealistic growth expectations for field branches. 24-hour on-call duty, which is expected to include any call from any of the 10, 20, 30, 40+ drivers per night, at any given time of the night, on a daily (including weekend) basis.

    Advice to Management

Oversee, and visit, outside branches on a more regular basis. This is a good company to work for, but the corporate-level appearance within the outside branches can lead some to think that you don't really care about them. Also, I personally believe each 'field' new-hire should spend at least three days at the Corporate HQ, prior to their first day at their 'field' office, in order to 1) Learn the culture, 2) See who exactly it is they're working for, and most importantly 3) Network with peers.

    Pros

If you want to work, JB Hunt has the miles. As long you deliver your loads on time and have a good log book (no hos violations), you will get more opportunities to make more money. Communication with your driver manager is very important. After 4-5 days out, I was able to get home by Sat morning. I am satisfied with compensation.

    Cons

Sometimes you will deliver to an area that has nothing coming out for a couple of days. You will have to sit and wait your regular DM comes back to work. The Weekend Crew doesnt no anything and are not much help.

    Advice to Management

Contine to keep your promise to drivers. Evaluate each driver and offer them a chance to grow in the company. Allow each driver plenty of time to make his load appointments.

    Pros

Excellent culture. Executive team has shown that they are willing to push for continued growth. Very diversified business with a great business plan and structure.

    Cons

Biggest downside is that its still just a transportation and logistics company. If you expect to climb very high, expect to have some tenure with the company. It helps retain the culture but might steer others away.

    Pros

The best reasons to work at this job is that most of the fleet managers are understanding and able to deal with drivers with courtesy and respect. They are very much concerned about safety and on-time delivery and will reward great performance. The have newer model trucks and kept exceptionally clean. Maintenance staff is very helpful and their attitudes towards the drivers has become better. Overall, this is a GREAT place to work as a Local Driver.

    Cons

At this particular location, it is difficult to work with 1 or 2 managers, but overall this location is the best place I have worked.

    Advice to Management

PLEASE give training on how to deal with internal customers, for the Drivers, Maintenance Workers, and Fleet managers.
