    I worked at J.B. Hunt full-time

    Pros

Not many if any, their pay is reasonable but I'm making lost more now. Really trying to find something but cant, sorry.

    Cons

J B Hunt is a Fortune 500 Company, and they are all about making money, period. You are but a instrument to that end. They have many subdivisions and branches off, of that. Lots depends on where you are headed. my personal experience was at Lancaster, Mass. Intermodal. We our 63 and have been in the transportation business all our lives. The job it self was a piece of cake, what was hard was all the political bull one has to deal with and the arrogant, sadistic, ignorant behavior of the management, to the point of impossible intolerability. Their policies are driven by a paranoia fear of litigation. So there is no rider policy, no pet policy, no phone policy while driving, not even while wearing a wireless head set. Their trucks are governed at 63, with very little power for hills, and you must maintain a 7 second following distance, which is in my opinion is most unreasonable on the east coast. Their trucks are loaded with senses that when and if they go off for what ever reason you are brought in, lose a half days pay and spanked and written up by a person that never has driven truck. If you attempt to defend yourself they will say well so and so has driven truck and they proceed to bring in one of their brown nosed yes men to help try to decapitate you. In short you are hired to be fired, stay far far away. Did not meet any one that was happy in that place. What amazes me the most is just how ignorant the head office is. There is a three thousand sign on bonus ( should of figured why) we saw three hundred of it. With 32 starting orientation, 12 of us made it through, then you have to go out with another driver for three to four days. All mine did was bad mouth the company and management. We continually wrote the front steer tires up for being in need of replacement but never were, they simply didn't care.

    Advice to Management

Now drive for another company, and very happy, doing a lot more with less, because we our not sadistically micro managed.

Current Employee - Night/Weekend Dispatcher in Lowell, AR
    Doesn't Recommend
    Neutral Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

-The co-workers in the dispatch position are A+. Very nice and very, very fun to talk to.
-Training is short but informative, and you're "valued" by management.
    -Immediate PTO accrual
-OPs VP Mark Blackburn is an amazing man who works harder than anyone I've seen
-The "regular" drivers who know and trust you

    Cons

-For dispatching: If you don't like phones, don't take this job.
-Phones are all they care about, emails and OBC messages are to be ignored until it looks like you've worked enough phones.
-You'll be cussed at. A lot. Most times it's not your fault, but the driver will berate you for all your shortcomings if you let them and they're not reprimanded for dragging their dispatchers at night through the mud.
-Pay is below national avg for dispatching positions. You start out at a flat 11.65.
-The management with exception of the big VP/Ops Manager are hypocritical, telling and accusing you of different issues and then doing what they told you not to do, i.e. playing on phones, blasting music, talking and laughing and taking multiple breaks. I understand the breaks part, but creating an environment where out of a 10 hour shift you maybe get a 30 minute lunch and no breaks because you're so backed up with work is a no-no.
-Hardly any breaks, clocking out even a minute early is frowned upon.

    Advice to Management

Get the whole side of the story before screaming at employees based on hear-say. Pay your dispatchers more. Don't play favorites and penalize one person when other people admit openly to doing the exact same things. Get a training module set in place, employees shouldn't be struggling three months in to answer questions. Make sure other people are doing their jobs and not leaving night dispatch with a workload they can't possibly do. And please, phones are not the be-all end-all of this job. Messages and emails are important too, and they prevent more drivers from calling in if you can get to them in a timely manner. Don't drill into certain employees for issues they cannot help, like sick days, and not do the same to other employees. It brings down morale.
