    I worked at J. C. Penney part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Salon manager was amazing, very helpful and did an overall good job. As a hair stylist getting payed hourly even if you were slow was nice. I loved the majority of my coworkers we were like a family, you don't have to buy any product which is awesome because of the current price of product now.

    Cons

As a hair stylist i just wanted to do hair, but because we did have someone to do the waxing the stylist had to do it and i hated it, but they still forced me to do it. Also if the receptionist was out for the day the stylist would have to play receptionist all day.

    Advice to Management

overall i enjoyed working in the salon, I would make sure that the front desk has coverage at all times and not use stylist to do that because when walk ins come favouritism plays to big of a roll in who gets the clients.

I have been working at J. C. Penney full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Decent hours
    Holiday pay opportunity
    Discount in the entire store
    Management takes care of employees

    Cons

Sometimes you can wind up with an under qualified department manager because they're desperate.

    Advice to Management

Don't put some random in charge of the salon just because they have their cosmetology license.

    I worked at J. C. Penney full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The only pro was the people I worked with and a few customers I got. Also the discount you can use in Sephora.

    Cons

At first the job was okay, but the manager hired to many stylists and had favorites so therefore some people never got clientele. Rules only applied to certain individuals. The manager was very catty and unprofessional, she'd pick certain stylist to mess with and try and ruin their day. The amount you get paid just isn't worth the bs.

    Advice to Management

Start actually caring about your employees instead of treating them poorly.

    Pros

    Benefits
    Base pay
    Back bar supplied
    Fun co workers
    Great clients

    Cons

Hard to grow within the salon portion of company
Can't create you're own schedule and you have to request off three weeks in advanced. One person will be stuck covering all the shifts. Commission is nice, but you could make more with booth rent.

    Advice to Management

Learn to communicate efficiently with people. Multiple emails a day are not a genuine form of communication. Before TELLING someone you have scheduled them on their off day, ask if they are available. Understand employees like to have a work/life balance.

    I worked at J. C. Penney part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Nice benefits and they had a lot of nice little parties for staff during holidays. My manager was great and fair. I met a lot of nice people there and they had an hourly wage which you do not get in most salons, plus commission. The commissions are based on your level.

    Cons

Salon was not in a good place in the store for exposure.

    Advice to Management

Make sure salons are modernized and maybe think about putting them nearer the fron tof the store or near sephora.

Only get commission on product you sell to a client who gets a service. Low hourly pay compared to others salons

    Advice to Management

Commission on all the product sales in the salon , raise hourly rate
