I have been working at J. C. Penney part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

None. The management is unappreciative of how hard we work. They have cut man hours by 2/3rds in every store and then say you are not working hard enough. Do not care at all if you are doing the job that took 3 people before. We work our buns off. So physically tired at the end of the day. I

    Cons

Cut hours constantly. They barely have any hours to give and THEN they cut them again. The place is a gigantic mess and most nights after we leave the back is full of returns to the point you can't move. The floor is a huge mess. The customers comment on it daily. And of course it's all our fault not corporate. They cheat you out of your breaks by scheduling you to work 7 hours and keeping you 1-2 hours after. That way you only get 1 break. They place stinks. Sad part is when I first started working here I liked it. But at that time we were fully staffed not doing the job of 3 people. Took pride in our work and kept our department in excellent shape. Now it is embarrassing to work there.

    Advice to Management

Ridiculous that one person is expected to do a job it took 3 to do. And being told me you're not working by you is just absolutely garbage. No good job. Thank you for working so hard. If you wants hours then you have to get credit cards. If you don't your screwed. And those of us who do not work registers are expected to get the same amount of credit cards is the other people do. Also they really do not care about the customer. People come to my department and see me and they are so excited to find me as they cannot find anyone yo assist them. If no one is scheduled to work then there will be no one to help. Also base our raises etc on meet and greet. Customers will take the service is bad. Our meet and greets have fallen from the high 90s to the low 70s. We'll HELLO. If there are no employees then there is no one to say hello. Dumb-***. Again all our fault too. Hate this place. Be out of here soon hopefully.

    I worked at J. C. Penney full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The people in my stores were great. Benefits for full time are awesome! Salary benefits are great as well.

    Cons

I worked around 50 hours a week and it was always expected. Phone calls at home all the time. Had to work every weekend so I missed a lot of my kid's sporting events. Haven't spent Thanksgiving with family in 5 years. They're going through a lot of changes and

    Advice to Management

Listen to the employees in the stores instead of making corporate decisions that you THINK will be best for the stores without really knowing what's going on. Don't change programs that are proven to work to programs that other companies run that are not the best for the type of retail that you're in. Different retail requires different programs. The same philosophies don't always work the same way. When hiring for district positions, take a good look at the candidate. You say you're all about hiring from within but you don't do that. You hire your "people" and it creates a lot of conflict....especially when that person does not know what they're doing and lies

    Cons

The management was unprofessional and they only paid attention to their favorite people. The other associates talked behind everyone's back.

    Advice to Management

Hire professional people and make sure that they don't try to start mess with other employees.
