I have been working at J. C. Penney part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The managers and fellow coworkers are very friendly and are willing to help each other.

    Cons

The history of the company is holding it back. There are people who have been employed there for over 25 years with the same position. With so many J. C. Penney stores shutting down I believe a make over is in order for the ones that are still open. It is now 2017 and the trends are changing. The clothes in the store is not my issue the overall visuals of the store is what worries me. The way the visual associate dresses is the same way the mannequins look, out dated and very bland.

    Advice to Management

I have worked for J.C. Penney for two years left for school and now I am back and want to put my education to work in the visual department. I am a good listener and shopper of the store. Listening to the customers complain about the way the store looks. Women who are over 30 are complaining. Some are upset at the fact that J.C. Penney caters to older women when the age group of consistent shoppers is 16-45. The mannequins have the same outfits on for weeks at a time, but new merchandise is brought in weekly. I could go on for days about what I believe could help the store. I have talked to my managers and requested to at least shadow the head of visuals for my store but because she has been there so long and there is a specific budget for the position I am not given the chance. All I need is one shot to prove that I can add a little spice to the J. C. Penney family I've grown to love.

I worked at J. C. Penney (More than a year)

    Pros

Great for college students, some supervisors help you with your job schedule so you can study and work.
Coworkers are really friendly and cooperative, great work environment.
In cosmetic department, you earn %3 on every fragrance or cosmetic. Sometimes you receive other compensations if you reach your selling goals (gifts like fragrances).
Associate's discount is 25% and you can combine it with the shopper discounts, so you get great deals.
They offer 401k, Christmas bonus (if you complete 700 hours before a specific month)

    Cons

So much pushing to do ICAPS (credit cards).
There are few cashiers in the entire store which has 3 floors. Because of this supervisors send clients to the cosmetic's department so they can check out quickly, but the problem in that this affect your cosmetics selling goals and therefore your productivity.
Is not a great job if you have a family or children because sometimes you will be require to work night shifts and on Sundays. Plus the salary is not great if you have so many responsibilities.

    Cons

    Insurance high
A lot of responsibilities on top of our basic duties
    Promote from with in
    Stressful during peak season

I have a 4 year degree and there is no place for me to advance at 26.
