    I worked at J. C. Penney part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

My co-workers and I were like family. It gave me the experience I needed to get internships as an upperclassman in college. They are very flexible with college students and will let them come back to work for the summers.

    Cons

The sales associates usually knew more than the management. Definitely have thick skin working there. The amount of times that my co-workers and I got called names because a sale ended or the price wasn't the same as another store or the same price as it was online was a little ridiculous.

    Advice to Management

LODs need to actually be on the floor.

    I worked at J. C. Penney full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good discounts, good 401(k) matching program.

    Cons

Excessive (60+ weekly) hours required to fulfill minimum job expectations. Slow growth, mostly based on arbitrary timelines imposed individually by leadership. HR policies not universally enforced.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your team and don't burn them out. Set realistic expectations and celebrate accomplishments. Push back and stop painting a fake, rosy picture of the store environment; it is unhealthy in most locations.

The starting pay is very low.
Long standing hours are seriously painful to your feet.

Company who cares for their employees.

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Don't play favoritism. Don't work less than your employees. Don't take credit for what you're employees have done for you.

I have been working at J. C. Penney full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Ease in scheduling, interesting customer base, independence, flexibility.

    Cons

Lack of training, organization guidelines very confusing, management follow thru almost non existent. Not the most lucrative job.

    Advice to Management

Train the staff on system prior to throwing them into the field. Sitting in front of a computer by oneself for weeks does not help when you are are expected to to work in contact with customers. Trading on the fly does not make you an expert.

I have been working at J. C. Penney full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of different job within the building if you want a change. Benefits and starting pay are comparable to other warehouse jobs. Annual increases until you reach the top of your position pay.

    Cons

Working for a retailer in a tough market they have to put profit over people. Once you are at the top pay of your position don't expect a increase. Sometimes lots of overtime other times you can't get 40 hours. Hot in the summer.
